PURPOSE/FUNCTION OF PROGRAM
The function of the Facilities Department is to provide and maintain resources necessary for the agency to run effectively and efficiently.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of Agency buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment and performs all duties required to ensure the purpose and function of the Facilities Department. This includes but, is not limited to minor repairs related to general carpentry, electrical and mechanical needs. Equipment and supplies are to be kept clean, orderly and in functional condition. Grounds are expected to be landscaped and kept free of debris, snow, and ice. This position is classified as “essential”.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all work according to standard procedures and operational schedule
- Conducts weekly tours of buildings and grounds to determine necessary maintenance and ensure its completion
- Assist with campus emergencies and drills, if needed
- Performs carpentry; repairs, new work, and painting, including touch up and finish
- Performs minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs
- Determines materials, necessary tools, and sequence of work to be performed
- Estimates and orders needed materials and supplies
- Establish priorities for workload based on need for immediate action, work objectives, work schedule, knowledge of future needs, etc.
- Has working knowledge of all cleaning and floor care equipment, assist custodial staff, if needed
- Sets up and tears down tables, chairs and equipment for Agency meetings, functions, and special events
- Assists with campus wide deliveries of supplies, materials, and equipment
- Maintains and grooms landscaping and grounds
- Clears snow from parking areas, entrances, and walkways
- Reports completed work orders to Facilities Assistant and Manager
- Performs general maintenance/safety building checks
- Follows all applicable safety rules and procedures
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carries out other job-related duties, as instructed
- Available to cover Maintenance staff vacancies, when needed
- Rotate weekend support hours, if necessary
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Experience in building maintenance and repair
- Experience using various hand and power tools
- Basic computer skills a must
- Must be able to operate machinery such as snowplow, blowers, etc.
- Must have knowledge and record of preventative maintenance schedules
- Ability to carry out detailed oral and written instructions
- Ability to relate to students, staff and public, in a courteous manner
- Ability to work outside normal business hours if needed, for emergencies, as this role is considered “essential” to the operations of the Agency
- Possess a valid driver’s license and able to travel between all BGV locations.
VI. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or trade certificate
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in building maintenance

- None
VIII. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 85 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders
IX. WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice
- Must comply with department dress code
