Location: BCNY Basecamp @ Harriman State Park, 553 Arden Valley Road, Southfields, NY
Job Type: Seasonal / Full-Time / Exempt
Compensation: Starting at $6,000 Room & Board, with additional salary based on experience, certifications, and role.

Who We’re Looking For
We want passionate, energetic, and adventurous individuals who are excited about mentoring young people in a rustic outdoor setting. You’ll be a guide, a role model, and an architect of fun, helping campers find their confidence, build friendships, and discover new skills.
No formal education requirements—what matters most is your attitude, willingness to be present, and openness to being challenged. You may find yourself uncomfortable at times, but the growth you’ll experience will be tremendous.
Your Role: More Than Just a Job
As a Counselor & Activity Counselor, you are part of a dynamic team at the heart of camp life, creating an environment where campers feel safe, supported, and ready for adventure. Your role is a unique blend of cabin leadership, activity facilitation, and spontaneous fun—because the best camp moments are often the unexpected ones!
Cabin Life & Camper Support
- Live in a cabin with a group of campers, alongside 2 other staff members.
- Be a mentor, a listener, and a role model, helping campers adjust to camp life and build friendships.
- Support campers through homesickness, excitement, challenges, and triumphs.
- Ensure smooth daily transitions from meals to activities and everything in between.
- Lead by example in keeping cabins tidy, respecting camp rules, and fostering a positive camp culture.
Leading & Creating Unforgettable Activities
- Co-lead and lead daily activities, ranging from archery, swimming, canoeing, and basketball to arts & crafts, woodworking and wilderness exploration.
- Have a specific certification or passion? Become an Activity Counselor and take the lead in teaching and designing activities that align with your skills.
- Introduce new, creative experiences to camp—whether it’s improv games, storytelling, or a quirky camp-wide challenge!
- Keep the energy going with impromptu games and bonding moments between scheduled activities.
Full Camp Participation & Leadership
- Get involved in all camp-wide events, from themed nights to day trips and outdoor expeditions.
- Work with fellow counselors to build a tight-knit, supportive staff team.
- Bring your enthusiasm, leadership, and problem-solving skills to ensure every camper has the best summer ever.
