What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Boys & Girls Club (Central Orange Coast)?
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Commitment to Safety
- Contribute to environment of safety through the learning and implementation and monitoring of all safety-related best practices, policies, and procedures.
- Promote accountability to safety through consistent observation, adherence to all safety rules and practices and proactive communication among members, parents, peers, and leadership.
- Obtain and maintain Mandated Reporter training and complete annual Child Abuse Prevention training.
- Complete training and participate in all Emergency Preparedness protocols including drills and communication practices.

2. Maintain a safe environment within vehicle while transporting children (i.e. proper discipline techniques, knowledge of emergency procedures, etc).
3. Demonstrate exceptional customer service and professionalism.
4. Maintain positive interaction with youth both in and outside of the bus/van environment.
5. Transport youth to functions including field trips and special events.
6. Performs pre-trip inspection on vehicles prior to driving; reports and mechanical defects; maintains vehicles in a safe, clean, sanitary and orderly condition (fueling, washing, etc.); inspects and operates as needed fire extinguishers, first aid kits and other emergency equipment.
7. Prepares and maintains detailed records including mileage and incident reports; completes vehicle inspection logs.
8. Works cooperatively with organization staff within a team environment.
9. Performs other related duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS (proof required with application submission):
- CA Class B License with Passenger Endorsement (min. 2 years)
- CA Special Driver’s Certificate for School Bus or Youth Bus Drivers
- Current H-6 DMV printout
- Current Medical Examiner’s Certificate
2. Must be a good role model for youth - lead by example
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Knowledge of current safety and road regulations for the state of California
- Must report suspected child abuse in accordance with California law
- Must have experience working with youth
- Must successfully complete Live Scan background check and pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must be able to work in the United States
- Must be available to work some evenings and weekends as needed
3. Valid Youth Bus Certificate (preferred)
FMCSA Clearinghouse Registration Notice to Applicants: This position is considered a safety sensitive position by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Effective January 6, 2020, any applicant who wishes to be considered for this position must be registered with the FMCSA Clearinghouse. Regulations require the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast to perform a full query of any individual prior to that person being hired into a safety sensitive position. Regulations also require applicants to provide consent for the full query.
