Summary
The Bus Driver will play a crucial role in our WATCH after-school program, ensuring the safe and punctual transportation of children from local schools to our program, as well as to occasional off-site activities or events. This position requires a dedicated individual committed to the safety and well-being of children, with a focus on maintaining a secure, timely, and friendly transportation service.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport children from their school to our WATCH after-school program, adhering to scheduled routes and time schedules.
- Maintain a clean and mechanically-sound bus at all times, performing pre/post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure operational safety.
- Develop and maintain positive and supportive relationships with children, parents, school personnel, and WATCH staff.
- Follow local and state laws regarding child safety and school bus operation.
- Manage any minor on-the-bus conflicts or issues in a calm, professional manner.
- Ensure compliance with WATCH policies, as well as state and federal regulations regarding school bus transportation.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Participate in state required ongoing trainings, drug screenings, and licensure.
- Provide occasional transportation for field trips or special events outside regular hours.
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements.
- Clean driving record and background check.
- Experience in driving school buses or similar vehicles.
- Strong understanding of local traffic laws and the physical layout of the area.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and school staff.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
- Commitment to providing a safe, caring environment for children.
- Ability to work after-school hours and occasional weekends for special events.
Education and/or experience
- Some college units preferred
