Primary Interfaces: College Bound Team, Workforce Development Team, Director of Teen Center Programs, Chief Operations Officer, CEO, Community Partners and constituents
FSLA Status: Exempt
Compensation: $18.00-$20.00 / hour
Hours per week: 25 hours/week
MUST BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE AND PROVIDE AN OPEN/CONSISTENT SCHEDULE. MUST BE WILLING TO DRIVE. JOB REQUIRES TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN THE MAIN CLUB AND PARTNERING SCHOOLS. SOME DUTIES WILL BE CONDUCTED OFF-SITE.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The College Bound Alumni Advisor is a part-time position reporting to the Director of College Bound of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast. The Alumni Advisor will be responsible for working with College Bound alumni to ensure students successfully enroll in a post-secondary institution and progress to graduation. The Alumni Advisor will engage with colleges, universities, community organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders to secure resources for College Bound alumni. The Alumni Advisor is responsible for furthering the work of the College Bound program by ensuring the successful completion of the alumnis' post-secondary plan.
The College Bound Alumni Advisor will work in collaboration with the Director of College Bound, the College Bound Coordinator to coordinate effective and consistent collaboration with students, parents, staff, volunteers to ensure the quality of the College Bound Alumni program. This individual will help facilitate various group activities which meet the College Bound Program and site objectives of delivering high-quality college guidance programming in a passionate and compelling manner. The College Bound Alumni Advisor will engage and regularly meet with college alumni to review needs and academic progress. Success will be measured by engagement and opportunities provided for college students in the College Bound Alumni Program, by the number and quality of workshops implemented, the number of members in the program, and by the quality of collaboration with other departments, colleges, partners and donors.
KEY ROLES
Commitment to Safety
- Contribute to an environment of safety through the learning and implementation and monitoring of all safety-related best practices, policies, and procedures.
- Promote accountability to safety through consistent observation, adherence to all safety rules and practices, and proactive communication among members, parents, peers, and leadership.
- Obtain and maintain Mandated Reporter training and complete annual Child Abuse Prevention training.
- Complete training and participate in all Emergency Preparedness protocols including drills and communication practices.

Alumni Support
- Provide mentoring, support, and individualized advising to College Bound Alumni to ensure they are working towards their post-secondary goals
- Provide ongoing support to alumni via email, phone, virtual meetings, and in-person meetings
- Participate in individual and small group meetings with alumni at local colleges to support student retention and completion of degrees
- Responsible for data management that includes tracking student engagement
- Research and consolidate resources for various post-secondary plans: college, transfer students, military, vocational school, and career objectives
- Responsible for data tracking based on program indicators
- Support Academic Advisors with graduating seniors to ensure a successful transition from high school to college or other postsecondary plans
- Host events to engage alumni, develop their professional skills and connect them to resources
- Develop and manage an Alumni Peer Mentoring program at universities to increase alumni support and engagement
Strategic Planning
- Develop summer programming for the Senior to Alumni Process
- Collaborate with College Bound Alumni Coordinator and Director on College Bound Alumni Scholarship and Summer Internship expansion
- Collaborate with College Bound Alumni Coordinator and Director on the scholarship collection process
- Collaborate with College Bound Alumni Coordinator and Director on strategic alumni initiatives and implementation
- Collaborate on an annual action plan for the College Bound Program including year-end objectives, main activities, and assessment measures
- Support with obtaining program goals and metrics
- Coordinate the collection and input of data used to measure the ongoing effectiveness of services and program outcome measures
- Develop evaluation tools such as focus groups and surveys to identify areas of improvement
Partnership Development
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, community organizations, university personnel, local business and key stakeholders to increase resources and support
- Develop relationships with key personnel at universities to promote alumni success and monitor student progress
- Seek out resources and opportunities for the alumni including scholarships, internships, extension classes, and employment
- Contact and coordinate guest speakers from various professional fields to share information with members about careers and college experience
- Contact and coordinate presentations and events regarding college admission information for students and parents
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree in School Counseling preferred but not required.
- A minimum of three years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or non-profit agency planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of children and teens. (Preferred)
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to community and members from varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds.
- Knowledge of California high school graduation requirements, A-G requirements and other college/vocational school entry requirements.
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of references, descriptive data, and information.
- Ability to work independently and in an undefined environment.
- Ability to motivate, organize and supervise youth in a safe environment and manage behavior problems.
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications to be acquired upon hire.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
- Strong interest in education and impacting member learning in a positive manner.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Proficiency in office-based computer programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, and Publisher).
