The Boys & Girls Club of Erie has been operating a successful after school tutoring program in collaboration with Erie’s Public Schools since 2021. Founded in 1895the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Erie is to build a secure base for every child, upon which they can build a positive, independent identity, one capable of dealing with the challenges of childhood. We accomplish our mission of building that base by establishing attachment relationship with caring adults, nurturing interests and talents, and providing opportunities for autonomy.
The Boys & Girls Club of Erie is looking for anAcademic Tutor/Mentorfor its’ after school tutoring program. The expectation is at least 4days per week between Monday through Friday, from 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm (there is some flexibility to accommodate schedules).
The starting rate of pay is $20.00 per hour.
This is a part-time (15-18 hours/week), year-round position, working with urban youth ages 7 -14 years old.
Responsibilities:
- Contributes to student learning, growth, and advancement.
- Demonstrates academic competence in I-Ready Math and Core Knowledge Language Arts
- Adapt lessons to meet the individual needs of the students.
- Facilitates problem-solving with a curious mind and critical thinking skills.
- Build a positive adult relationship with students
- Invests in the learners’ well-being, health, and safety, physically, socially, and emotionally.
- Collaborates effectively with Erie’s Public Schools and the Boys & Girls Club to increase student performance.
- Track and report daily attendance.
- Track and report individual progress.
Skills:
- Ability to understand and work with at risk, inner city youth, primarily living in poverty.
- Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable, and cooperative.
- Ability to take supervision and correction constructively.
- Ability to positively supervise students.
- General understanding of I-Ready Math and Core Knowledge Language Arts.
Requirements:
- Background in Education highly preferred.
- Can be working towards a degree in Education.
- Must be able to pass Child Abuse and Criminal Background Checks.
