What is the Boys & Girls Club?
As “The Positive Place For Kids” we provide guidance-oriented character development programs for children 6 to 17 years old conducted by a full-time professional staff. The Boys & Girls Club of Crawford County nurtures young people’s self-esteem by instilling in them a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence and competence. Core programs at the Club engage young people annually in activities with adults, peers and family members that enable them to develop self-esteem and to reach their full potential.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary responsibility of a Youth Mentor is to ensure the safety and well-being of all youth members. The Youth Mentor delivers structured educational, social, athletic, and recreational programs for the Boys & Girls Club of Crawford County, supporting our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship serving young people aged 6-17. Additionally, the Youth Mentor is committed to understanding and embodying the mission and core values of the Boys & Girls Club of Crawford County.
During the school year this role will primarily work weekdays, 2:30pm - 6:30pm. Occasional weekend hours as needed.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Prepare Youth for Success
1. Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
- promote and stimulate program participation;
- provide guidance and role modeling to members.
Program Development and Implementation
2. Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for drop-in members and visitors.
3. Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times.
Supervision
4. Ensure the wellness and safety of all members by following the guidelines set forth by Boys & Girls Club of Crawford County.
5. Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings and training sessions.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
- Ability to deal with the general public of any socio-economic and ethnic background and youth age group.
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
- Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Mandatory CPR, First Aid and Universal Precautions certifications.
- Valid State Driver’s License and good driving record. Agreeable to obtain a driver's license if not currently held.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to perform gross and fine motor activities.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, pull up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to handle hazardous/infectious waste; work where chemicals are used for cleaning; work where environmental dust, mist, and/or steam are occasionally present.
- Must be able to pass any and all required background screens and drug screens at any time of employment.
