Job Title: Chief Operations Officer
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Division: Operations
Status: Full-time, Salary Exempt
Compensation: $50,000-60,000
Description:
Join a dynamic and growing organization that has increased our annual budget and number of locations within the last two years! Be a key member of the senior leadership team as we move to increase the number of youth served (including, Infant-PreK, elementary programs (11), and a teen center). Direct experience driving significant growth, developing staff, and delivering improved outcomes is critical.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) reports directly to the CEO and plays a key role on the Senior Leadership Team, overseeing the day-to-day operations across all club locations. The COO ensures that programs are delivered effectively and safely, manages operational budgets, and supports partnerships that enhance youth development and organizational growth. This role is essential for aligning operations with the Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan’s mission and strategic goals, promoting positive experiences and impactful outcomes for club members.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Club Experience:
- Create and encourage a culture of positivity, excellence, and high-quality Club experience throughout the Operations department.
- Design relevant and exciting Club programs at all sites by utilizing the Club’s strategic plan as established by the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Develop and maintain a program dashboard of high-impact programs that meet priority outcomes for all age groups.
- Oversee the implementation and delivery of operations, programs, services, and activities that facilitate the achievement of youth development outcomes.
- Monitor annual site goals to increase impact (average daily attendance, NYOI scores, youth academic enhancement, evaluation systems, etc.).
- Oversee efficient membership registration procedures and accurate program attendance tracking throughout all sites.
- Monitor progress toward fulfilling programmatic grant requirements, including related evaluations.
Strategy:
- Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve program effectiveness and Club membership within the assigned portfolio.
- Oversee that key elements for positive youth development, social-emotional learning, and Youth Program Quality Intervention are ingrained in each Club.
- Lead and cultivate a strong relationship/partnership with USD 383 School District and USD 320 School District. Primary contact and facilitator of a positive partnership between entities. Better?
- Develop authentic relationships with external stakeholders including government, community leaders, donors, families, volunteers and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure that programs are developmentally safe and culturally inclusive for all Club members.
- Maintain supervision and safety standards in alignment with Boys & Girls Club.
- Serve as a representative of the organization, advocating for youth and supporting their needs in the community.
Safety:
- Regular club visits should be conducted to observe programming and assess safety and risk.
- Quarterly reviews of club incidents, escalation, and behavior management.
- Ensure that Club environments are physically and psychologically safe places for Club members.
- Oversee property management including but not limited to maintenance, transportation, Club safety, and risk management.
- Conduct regular reviews of fixed assets and replacement schedules.
Personnel/Professional Development:
- Recruit, Hire, and supervise Operations lead staff (4-6 direct staff) by providing support, coaching, feedback, supervision, and guidance to manage high-performing teams effectively.
- Ensure all employees, volunteers, and other individuals follow Club policies and standard operating procedures.
- Oversee the hiring, training, development, and evaluation of program staff.
- Assist in creating and maintaining job descriptions, reviews, and personnel documents. Assist in hiring staff in assigned Clubs.
- Create customized staff development opportunities based on program needs.
- Ensure all program staff receive needed training and coaching.
Finance & Grants
- Conduct budget planning and monitor financial performance, identifying opportunities for cost savings and driving efficiencies through system enhancements.
- Assist with the prioritization and development of program budgets by site and annual creation of operating plans
- Work closely with Finance, Development, and Human Resources to maintain financial health and ensure sound fiscal management.
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements and manage facilities, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
- Oversight and responsibility for facility maintenance, repairs, and risk management.
- Support development and donor relation efforts and planning in partnership with the Resource Development Team.
Board & Committee Support:
- In collaboration with the CEO or at the direction of the CEO work with board members and committees to provide updates on key initiatives and support board engagement in strategic goals.
- Participate in necessary committees; safety, training, operations, etc.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Support marketing and public relations efforts to enhance visibility and trust in Club programs.
- Manage deliverables for grants, particularly restricted programs, ensuring compliance with BGCA and external reporting requirements. Including management of team to plan accordingly to execute programs. Manage sharing and aligning of calendars across the organization.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience in operations management and supervision at a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development organization.
- Considerable knowledge and commitment to the mission of Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, and coordinate operations, personnel management, and budget management.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership toward helping staff accomplish program goals by providing objective feedback and counseling as needed.
- Ability to innovate and increase efficiency with programs.
- Ability to recognize problems, resolve conflicts, research options, present alternatives, implement solutions, and follow through to ensure goals are met.
- Strong administrative/clerical skills and ability to manage files and records
- Demonstrated presentation skills and experience conducting trainings, workshops and seminars for various audiences.
- Knowledge of coaching strategies and program evaluation techniques.
- Maintain active CPR & First Aid certification.
- A valid driver's license and ability to be insured under the company's insurance policy is also a requirement.
