Title: Lead Teacher
Pay Range: $14 -$15
Reports To: Assistant Director
Job Type: Full Time Hourly, Non Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Leads and manages the daily operations of a designated classroom with the primary concern for the children enrolled. This includes lesson planning and curriculum implementation, licensing regulation and classroom design, and implementation of nutrition and developmental standards.
KEY ROLES:
Essential Duties and Functions:

Ensure an educational, caring and safe environment for the children and parents.

Development and implementation of quality and developmentally appropriate lesson plans
-
Engage with children with an emphasis on Safety and Licensing Regulations.

Maintenance of child attendance, daily records, and long term items such as portfolios.

Completion of screening tools such as the ASQ at regular intervals, and as needed.

Promotion the positive image of the company and play a major role in making the company a provider of choice in educational programs for the communities that we service.

Effectively communicate the mission, vision and values of the BGC MHK

Attend BGC staff meetings, one-on-ones with supervisor, community meetings and training as required.

Assistance with resource development and family connections

Administration of standards of behavior and discipline to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff and families

Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes
-
Provide guidance and role modeling to members
-
Supervision and mentorship of assistant teachers
-
Duties as needed, to maintain the safety and care of children and community
-
Other duties as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close contact with Club staff and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintain contact with parents or guardians in order to communicate about Club activities, explain or interpret Club guidelines, and address any conduct issues relative to members. May be required to communicate with or work closely with licensing agents and early childhood instructors.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills:
Required:

Demonstrated ability in working with children, parents and community leaders
-
Must have previous management experience and at least 1 year of experience working in a licensed child care facility.

High School diploma or equivalent
-
Knowledge of youth development
-
Must meet state requirements to be considered Lead Qualified per KDHE requirements
-
Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems
-
Ability to deal with the general public (both verbal and written)

Ability to supervise and motivate staff
Preferred:
-
Bachelor’s Degree and/or experience in Youth Development, Elementary/Secondary Education or similar degree.
-
Supervisory experience.
-
CPR and First Aid Certifications (training provided)
-
Proficiency in word processing and creative computer software applications
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Working in a KDHE licensed facility, you may be required to lift and carry children, have close contact with children, Stoop/bend, walk up and down stairs, Drive a vehicle, evacuate children in an emergency, and supervise children/ engage in childcare activities.
