POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Program Director is responsible for overall Club programming for youth between the ages of 5 and 18. Program responsibilities support our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship, and Workforce Development. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs. Provide leadership and supervision to assigned program and volunteer staff. Under the direct supervision of the Unit Director and assume responsibilities of that position in his/her absence.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Prepare Youth for Success
- Plan and oversee the administration of daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly programs and activities.
- Ensure the members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program areas.
- Demonstrate leadership to ensure proper conduct, safety and development of members.
- Build positive relationships with youth, staff, volunteers, parents, schools, and community.
Program Development and Implementation:
- Responsible for meeting all organizational requirements established by the national association and the Boys & Girls Club of Montgomery County.
- Encourage a positive environment for all individuals to learn, interact, and grow.
- Assist with organizing and maintaining all program areas.
- Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis, including tracking outcome metrics; verify that programs/activities respond to member needs.
- Assist with guidance and discipline with members and following guidance procedures when following up with parents.
- Record keeping of all programs and members. Turning in all required reports on time and in good order. Keeping files on programs for future use.
- Control Club programs and activity expenditures within approved budget.
- Schedules and coordinates field trips and out of building games for teams and leagues
- Coordinates member recognition programs and maintains accurate records.
- Assist with the daily maintenance of equipment, facilities, and vehicles.
- Acts as Advisor to youth leadership clubs & opportunities.
Supervision
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, disciplining, scheduling, and evaluation of part-time staff.
- Recruit volunteers needed to run internal and external programs, including referees, coaches, guest speakers, and any other necessary volunteer position.
- Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal. Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff. Provide daily, on-the-job training needs of program staff.
- Coordinate program planning efforts of all program staff. Receive supply requests and procure items necessary for program implementation.
- Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers.
- Relieve program staff for break periods as necessary and run program classroom if staff not available.
Marketing and Public Relations
- Preparation, posting, and distribution of additional services, upcoming programs, club hours, and special events throughout the Club and to Club families.
- Plan and coordinate building displays and bulletin boards.
- Develop and oversee Club and community special events when assigned
- Serve as an advocate of youth, through public speaking, serving on community groups, etc.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
- Participate with staff in organizational events, special community events, and fundraisers.
- Review and respond to e‐mails, voicemails and other forms of communication within one business day.
- May be required to drive Club van/bus periodically
- May handle deposits and banking transactions
- Assume other duties as directed by the Unit Director or Administration
Physical Requirement/Work Environment:
- Ability to perform gross and fine motor activities required for typing, writing, simple manipulations such as telephone buttons, computer keyboards, fax machine buttons, etc.
- Ability to work in a professional environment and positively represent organization under various levels of stress.
- Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
- Visual acuity for accurate reading, typing, filing and use of computer screen.
- Ability to work at a rapid pace and where frequent interruptions and changes in plans or deadlines may occur.
- Hearing is needed for purposes of business related phone communications, public broadcasts, answering incoming phone calls, etc.
- Ability to lift and carry 15 to 50 pounds for office supplies, audio equipment, and other items needed for the preparation and takedown of special events.
- Ability to operate a safe mode of transportation for publicity functions/events, transportation of supplies, and meetings.
- Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, squat for filing and retrieval of stored files and supplies.
Educational Skills & Experience:
- Four-year degree in related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
- 2 or more years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club, or similar organization, including planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Experience in providing leadership and problem solving.
- Demonstrated organizational, managerial, and project management abilities.
- Basic computer skills; proficient in MS Office and Google Workspace
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications
