Summer - STEAM Lead Youth Development Professional (Seasonal)

This is a part-time / seasonal (June - August) / (30-40 hours/week) / non-exempt position

Position Overview:

The STEAM Lead Youth Development Professional is responsible for leading hands-on, play-based STEAM activities for youth in grades K-12. This role focuses on fostering curiosity, creativity, and collaboration while integrating social-emotional learning (SEL) principles to create a supportive and inclusive environment. Using a provided curriculum, the STEAM Lead will deliver fun, engaging programs that inspire a love of learning and personal growth. Regular weekly meetings with a supervisor will ensure alignment with program goals and provide ongoing support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, organize, and implement play-based STEAM activities tailored to various age groups (K-12) in alignment with the provided curriculum.
• Incorporate social-emotional learning (SEL) principles into daily interactions and activities.
• Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages creativity, teamwork, collaboration, and critical thinking.
• Utilize a strength-based approach to build meaningful relationships with youth and support their peer-to-peer relationships, promoting their growth and development.
• Supervise and mentor youth during activities, ensuring safety and engagement.
• Collaborate with other team members and meet weekly with your supervisor to discuss program progress, goals, and any adjustments needed.
• Communicate effectively with staff about program goals and individual progress.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment.

Qualifications:

• A passion for working with children and teens from diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge or experience in STEAM fields is helpful but not essential.
• Strong understanding of social-emotional learning (SEL) principles and practices.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to engage and inspire youth through interactive and hands-on activities.
• Flexibility, creativity, and a team-oriented mindset.
• Previous experience in youth development, education, or related fields is a plus.

Minimum Skills/Knowledge required:

· Must be able to work in lead role with a group of children (requires employees to be 18 years or older per BGCA safety requirements)

• Prior experience working with children in lead positions required or equivalent experience
• Ability to follow a structured curriculum and adapt lessons as needed.
• Growth mind-set and a willingness to meet weekly with your supervisor for feedback, planning, and professional development.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Required to be available during after-school hours during the school year, occasional Saturdays, and full days during the summer camp.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
