HOURS: Monday-Friday 25 hours/week, 1:00 pm-6:00 pm (early mornings, afternoons, occasional
weekend & evening hours)
LOCATIONS: Canoga Park High School, Chatsworth High School, Cleveland High School
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Keystone Advisor plays a pivotal role in guiding and mentoring teens through the Keystone program
at the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley. This position focuses on developing young leaders by
providing mentorship that emphasizes leadership growth, career and college readiness, wellness,
community involvement, and character development. The Advisor will empower teens to build essential
skills, fostering the growth of positive, confident leaders who are well-prepared for the workforce and
their futures. This part-time role requires a year-long commitment to help teens successfully navigate
their development while transitioning out of the program.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Program Leadership & Mentorship:
● Facilitate and mentor teens in leadership development, character building, wellness, and civic
engagement through the Keystone program.
● Actively guide and support teens as they plan and execute service-learning projects, including
those aligned with National Keystone initiatives.
● Provide mentorship in creating and executing programs that focus on social-emotional learning,
personal well-being, and ethical decision-making.
● Ensure teens are gaining the skills needed to be effective leaders in both the Club and their
broader communities.
● Serve as a mentor who actively encourages teens to develop essential life skills and a strong
work ethic, helping them prepare for both higher education and the workforce.
● Support and nurture teen-led initiatives, encouraging creativity and ownership of projects while
providing strategic guidance.
● Maintain Keystone charter status with BGCA, ensuring national initiatives and best practices are
consistently followed.
● Organize fundraising events that encourage leadership and responsibility among teens.
● Mentor teens during participation in the National Keystone Conference, ensuring they are
prepared to take full advantage of the experience.
● Ensure necessary supplies and resources are available to support programming.
● Support the development of and sustain relationships with schools, community partners, and
local organizations to enhance member opportunities.
● Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for all members.
Youth Engagement & Development:
● Foster an environment where teens are empowered to take on leadership roles, building
confidence, communication skills, and the ability to work in teams.
● Cultivate a space of inclusivity and encouragement that helps teens take initiative and lead by
example.
● Provide consistent mentorship and guidance to teens, helping them to grow into confident,
responsible, and compassionate leaders.
● Lead wellness initiatives focusing on mental health, physical well-being, and overall personal
growth to equip teens with the tools for success.
● Observe and assess each teen’s development, tracking progress and providing support when
needed to help them achieve their goals.
● Ensure teens are prepared for their transition out of the program, providing career-readiness
mentorship, resume-building, interview preparation, and job shadowing opportunities.
Supervision & Administration:
● Supervise and mentor Keystone members directly, ensuring they are growing and meeting their
leadership potential.
● Track and report on program outcomes and teen participation to ensure that goals are being met
and the program remains aligned with developmental objectives.
● Provide individualized support to teens in need, offering guidance on leadership opportunities
and workforce preparation.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Lead and/or participate in special programs or events that further leadership development.
● Provide supervision in other areas of the Club as needed.
● May be required to transport teens in a Club van (based on driving record and age
requirements).
● Will be required to work occasional weekends and evenings to support program needs.
● Travel between multiple sites is required.
● Attend and support teens at the National Keystone Conference (expenses paid by BGCWV).

RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Collaborates with Club staff, Keystone members, and Unit Directors to ensure successful
program implementation and member development.
External: Builds and maintains relationships with schools, community organizations, colleges,
universities, parents, and local partners to expand youth leadership opportunities.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
● Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience
● Experience working with youth ages 11-18 in a leadership or mentoring capacity.
● Strong understanding of youth development principles.
● Ability to deal with the general public.
● Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications and TB clearance.
● Ability to engage and supervise large groups of teens effectively.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with youth, staff, and the public.
● Experience in program planning, event coordination, and leadership training.
● Strong organizational and time management skills.
● Proficiency in technology and digital communication platforms.
DISCLAIMER:
The position requires the ability to maintain a stationary position and engage in physical activities such
as moving, bending, reaching, and positioning. It may also involve traversing and ascending/descending
as necessary. The role includes frequent interruptions via in-person contact, phone calls, and email
communications. Work environments may vary, encompassing both indoor and outdoor conditions
based on activity locations. Additionally, interactions with youth and adults may involve moderate to
high noise levels during activities. Physical exertion may be necessary to move and transport supplies
and equipment. Must be able to lift boxes up to 50 lbs. Staff is provided a laptop and cellphone.
