What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Program Staff position at Boys & Girls Club of Waynesboro, Staunton, & Augusta County?
Boys & Girls Clubs of Waynesboro, Staunton, & Augusta County (BGCWSA) seeks motivated program support staff to work directly with school aged youth (elementary and teens) in our summer program from 6/5/2025 to 7/25/2025. Paid training hours prior to summer start date will also be required but flexible.
POSITION SUMMARY
BGCWSA is a youth development organization that actively seeks to enrich the lives of its Club members by ensuring access to quality programs, a safe environment, and positive experiences. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, caring citizens. Under the supervision of the Unit Director, Program Staff help plan, implement, and supervise programs and activities in structured, specialized programming. Specialized content areas include: Education, Recreation, Cultural Arts, Sports & Fitness, and Technology.
JOB DUTIES:
- Promote program participation.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to youth.
- Provide a safe environment through clear rules and expectations.
- Help implement age appropriate activities for youth.
- Monitor youth while in structured and unstructured program activities.
- Inspect program areas daily for any safety precautions prior to youth entering the area.
- Supervise youth during off-site field trips.
- Ensure safety of members, quality programs and clean appearance of the Club at all times.
- Ensure a productive and collaborative work environment by participating in staff meetings.
- May organize and/or participate in special events related to programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position may involve lifting, bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping. Must be able to demonstrate and/or describe activities to youth. This position works around youth and adults with a moderate exposure to noise. This position will work both indoors and outdoors.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
High School diploma or GED.
Experience or interest in working with youth, experience with groups of youth preferred.
Ability to motivate youth, manage behaviors, and keep youth engaged in activities.
Ability to be consistent and encourage honesty, responsibility, fairness, sportsmanship and respect for all.
Ability to organize and supervise a safe environment.
Ability to be flexible and adapt in a work environment that changes often.
Must pass National Criminal Background Check.
CPR and First Aid Certifications are a bonus!
