Position Summary:
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia provides after-school and summer programs for youth ages 5-18. Our programs focus on Health & Well-being, Academic Success, Character & Leadership, and Life & Workforce Readiness. The Member Success Coordinator will work with youth to ensure they have a positive Club experience. This role focuses on behavior support and the social-emotional well-being of members. The Member Success Coordinator helps to provide strategies for staff to ensure a healthy, supportive program environment, and to help members develop coping mechanisms to minimize behavior and/or emotional issues. The Member Success Coordinator will work with members during after-school hours, Monday through Friday, generally between 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Hours may vary during the summer. This position reports to the Unit Director.
Position Responsibilities:
- Create developmentally appropriate curriculum for behavior support, social skills, and wellness support, and facilitate programs in large and small group settings.
- Identify members for small group activities through observation and consultation with Club Unit Director and hold 3-4 small group sessions each week.
- Work with the Unit Director and Lead Program Coordinator to develop ongoing support for each age group while ensuring contact with each age group through program facilitation a minimum of once every other week.
- Develop key performance indicators regarding efficacy of programs and support approaches and adjust goals to ensure efficacy of programs and interactions.
- Develop cooperative relationships with members and staff and provide role clarity to stakeholders.
- Provide consultation to Unit Director, Program Coordinators, staff, and guardians regarding the needs of members to be successful in the Club.
- Maintain detailed records and notes of member interactions and progress including progress notes, reports, etc.
- Provide members and families with external community resources to promote total wellness of all members.
- Provide training to staff on topics such as trauma-informed care, emotional safety, positive reinforcement, crisis intervention, and more.
- Maintain positive behavioral norms and routines within the Club.
- Assist with crisis intervention and prevention.
- Work with individual youth to help manage program interruptions.
- Hold conversations with youth in need of behavior support to develop and follow up on support plans with youth and their guardian(s).
- Create and support opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote a human-centered organizational culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience working with youth ages 5 through 18 and knowledge of youth development
- Working knowledge of positive behavior intervention strategies and support
- Working knowledge of the interpersonal skills required to manage youth in crisis
- Ability to relate with children and parents/guardians as well as establish and maintain effective relationships
- Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills
- Ability to keep accurate and detailed records
- Ability to deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner
- Ability to motivate youth in a consistent and constructive manner while maintaining a positive environment
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook
Education and Certifications:
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma required
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, human services, or a similar focus preferred
- Knowledge of Restorative Practices preferred
- Documented training in Mental Health First Aid, ACEs, and Trauma Informed Care (or willingness to obtain in the first year of employment)
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
- Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for up to 75% of the work day.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a copier, printer, filing cabinets, etc.
- Ability to engage in substantial repetitive motion from typing or writing, etc.
- Light work: ability to lift and/or move 20 lbs on occasion.
- Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day
