TITLE: Seasonal Youth Development Professional II
DEPARTMENT: Programs
REPORTS TO: Center Supervisor
STARTING SALARY: $16 per hour
WORK STATUS: Seasonal (Summer)
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday thru Friday (6/10/2024 to 8/16/2024); 7am – 1pm or 12pm – 6pm
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Plans, implements, and evaluates healthy educational activities provided within a specific program area that supports our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities)
Prepare Youth for Success
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes
- Promote and stimulate program application
- Register new members and participate in the club orientation process
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members
Program Development and Implementation
- Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for members and visitors.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the center at all times. Prepare periodic activity reports.
Health and Safety
- Ensure a healthy and safe environment, supervising members in program area.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- May be required to participate in special programs and/or events in evenings and/or weekends
- May be required to drive Club vehicles/vans
RELATIONSHIPS
- Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Center staff (professional and volunteer), Club members and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
- External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE & DOCUMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED; minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children
- Knowledge of youth development programs preferred
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
- Communicate effectively with the general public
- Ability to use Microsoft office products: Outlook, Word, Excel, member tracking software
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
- Ability to assist with tracking and reporting program outcomes
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
- Complete mandatory State/Federal Licensing training requirements within 2 weeks; complete BGCGC orientation training and ongoing training requirements according to onboarding schedule
- Valid State Driver’s License preferred/reliable transportation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical activities while engaged with youth in outdoor games. Additionally, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasionally required to lift, transport items that may weigh 25 lbs. or less.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is performed at our Center sites and requires attendance at evening and weekend events. Occasional domestic overnight trips to attend conferences and/or related professional events may be required.
