Position Summary: The Boys and Girls Club of Greater New Haven is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Development Professional to join our team. You will play a crucial role in providing a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for our youth members during after-school hours.
Responsibilities:
- Safety: Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of all participants.
- Afterschool Program Supervision: Oversee afterschool programs, ensuring the safety and well-being of all youth participants. Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes personal growth and development.
- Academic Support: Assist students with homework, projects, and academic challenges, offering guidance and encouragement to support educational success. Implement a reward system to recognize and celebrate academic achievements, promoting a positive and motivating environment.
- Youth Engagement: Implement engaging activities, programs, and workshops that align with our mission and values. Encourage active participation and support positive youth development.
- Mentorship and Guidance: Build meaningful connections with youth members, serving as a positive role model and providing emotional support and mentorship.
- Behavior Management: Apply effective behavior management strategies to maintain a safe and respectful environment, addressing behavioral issues with care and understanding.
- Program Planning and Implementation: Collaborate with the team to plan and execute various youth programs and special events that align with the Boys and Girls Club mission.
- Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents, guardians, and school staff to provide updates on students’ progress and address any concerns or questions.
- Training and Compliance: Participate in all required training and certifications in compliance with Boys & Girls Club of America’s standards.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience working with children and adolescents in an afterschool setting or similar environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with youth from diverse backgrounds.
- A genuine passion for youth development and a commitment to making a positive impact on young lives.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred, but willingness to obtain may be considered).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Ability to move from kneeling to standing position.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Ability to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
- Ability to work in noisy environments.
- Ability to perform running or light exercise.
- Ability to perform light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
Hours:
- 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM (Morning Care) - Limited spots available
- 3:00 PM - 6:15 PM (Afterschool, School Year)
- Your weekly schedule varies based on the needs of the youth served to support youth programming during the hours we are open. School year after-school program hours are typically between 3:00 PM to 6:20 PM, operating Monday through Friday during the academic school year. A mandatory staff meeting takes place each week. Also, when schools are out, clubs are in! During the school year, we offer full-day programs when schools are closed for holidays or special activities. If you are not able to work on a day that we are offering full-day programs, you must notify your supervisor three (3) weeks in advance. Otherwise, you will be expected to work as scheduled.
