Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Site Coordinator and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Boys & Girls Club of Lower Bergen County, the Youth Development Professional is responsible for the implementation of after school programs/ activities. The YDP implements a wide-ranging program plan that helps nurture and harvest the potential of Club members. The individual will role model our core values of honesty, respect and responsibility and work daily to develop personal and meaningful relationships with members, volunteers, program participants and others.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide participants with the appropriate supervision during the program and release.
- Develop and plan activities to implement into the daily routine.
- Contribute into provide a warm and caring atmosphere for participants.
- Maintain open communication between Boys & Girls Club staff and school personnel.
- Prepare activities that are developmentally appropriate for the teens or age of the members.
- Communicate with the parents through daily drop off (as needed).
- Maintain a safe environment for participants.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward coworkers, the School District, and the school.
- Responsible for all activity and room preparations for the program.
- Ability to critically assess situations, solve problems, work effectively under stressful situations.
- Flexible and able to adapt to changes in the work environment.
- Must be able to pass a background check. Consisting of two NJDCF required checks and two organizational checks.
- Keep the rooms/spaces neat and orderly.
- Follow and enforce all safety policies.
- Assist with participant check in/out.
- Arrive daily for scheduled workday on time and prepared for work shift. Staff must notify leadership if they will be absent by 12pm of the scheduled workday.
- Must clock in, or complete time sheet daily upon arrive and at the end of the work shift.
- Does not use personal electronic devices during work shift (i.e. cellphone, earphones, etc.)
- Maintains a professional appearance and conducts business using a customer centered approach.
- Assist lead teachers as necessary to ensure successful outcome of the Club’s operations and mission.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Must possess knowledge and understanding of working with junior school aged children.
- Must have experience working with children with various disabilities.
- Be a self starter and perform job with little supervision.
- Possess the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Possess the ability to follow written and oral directions.
- Experience / or knowledge in developing and implementing programs that nurture the potential of youth.
- Must be honest, in good health, accurate, have a neat appearance, and a courteous manner.
- Must be in good physical condition.
- Possess or willing to attain CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
Education / Certifications:
High school diploma or GED, or years of relevant work experience.
Must attain CPR/ First Aid and Child Abuse certifications within 90 days of hire.
Base hours:
Academic year is classified by the months between September through June.
Wednesdays between 2:45pm and 4:15pm. Up to 1.5 hours per week.
