Position: Youth Development Intern
Hours: Monday - Friday between 2:30pm-6:30pm, up to 25 hours/week.
Pay rate: $15 per hour
Length of Assignment: This will be for the second semester of the MCPSS school year, and may continue on for a full-time summer program
(hours would be between 7:30am-6:30pm Mon-Fri during June & July).
Interns will acquire knowledge of Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama and how the Club programs and operations create a developmentally rich environment that leads to a deepening impact, which will result in positive youth outcomes in three areas – academic success, good character & citizenship and healthy lifestyles.

Whitley Elementary School (Prichard, AL)
Chastang-Fournier K-8 (Trinity Gardens, AL)
Williamson Middle and High School Academy (Maysville Community, Mobile, AL)
Anna F. Booth Elementary School (Bayou La Batre, AL)
Internship experience will include:
High school diploma and a least 1 year of work experience.
FUNDAMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Maintains close daily contact with Club staff, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information. Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents, and others to assist in resolving problems/issues.

Internship experience will include:
- Orientation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama.
- Overview of organization policies & procedures.
- Gaining an understanding of roles & responsibilities of the Program Staff.
- Overview of Boys & Girls Club programs & activities.
- Youth development: Planning and coordinating programs for youth, such as mentorship, tutoring, and summer day camp.
- Program implementation: Ensuring that activities are age-appropriate, fun, and safe.
- Hands-on experience with Club Members. This includes activities such as reading with a child, helping with art activities, games room, or gym, coaching a sports team, assisting with special events, chaperoning field trips, serving as a resource speaker (sharing a talent or career interest).
- Membership Clerk Support/Backup. Answering the phone, and signing Club members in and out, assisting with clerical duties at the Administrative Office.
- Goal setting: Helping members set academic goals.
- Program evaluation: Evaluating program.
- Passion for working with youth: Genuine enthusiasm for engaging and supporting young people in a recreational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to interact effectively with children and build rapport.
- Leadership abilities: Confidence to guide and manage group activities.
- Organizational skills: Capability to plan, manage, and execute activities efficiently.
- Knowledge of recreational games and activities: Familiarity with various games and ability to teach rules and strategies.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to relate with children in a Boys & Girls Club environment.
- Ability to deal with the public and community organizations.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
High school diploma and a least 1 year of work experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Visual: Normal acuity required daily for making color distinction, depth of sight, preparing/analyzing figures, computer use, and written records 8 hours.
- Communication: Able to express thoughts and ideas in an accurate and understandable manner through verbal and written format with internal and external contacts, 8 hours per day
- Movement: Ability to maneuver within work site 6-8 hours per day.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing/Carrying: Able to comfortably move and manipulate up to 20 lbs of weight up to 4-6 hours per day.
- NOTE: All candidates are required to undergo a criminal background check, child abuse review by AL Department of Human Resources, fingerprinting, and a pre-employment drug screen/TB Test/medical clearance. Drug screen is $35 and will be reimbursed on first paycheck.
