POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Hispanic Outreach Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Regional Assistant Director of Operations
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To manage the efforts focused on Hispanic/Latino student recruitment and outreach with primary duties to include but are not limited to, identifying likely sources of Hispanic/Latino students (high schools and community-based organizations) and cultivating relationships with those sources, as well as developing and implementing on-campus and off-campus programs designed to promote BGCSENC to a Hispanic/Latino audience. This position will develop both web-based and print materials in Spanish in conjunction with the Marketing and Communications department. This position will also design and implement focused efforts to enroll Hispanic/Latino students.
Key Roles:
- Build and foster relationships and make connections with Hispanic/Latino communities.
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders who serve Hispanic/Latino students to foster a positive climate that leads to educational equity.
- Organize, schedule, and conduct outreach and recruitment programs and activities throughout the year on a variety of topics to meet identified needs and opportunities at K-12 schools, community agencies, and on and off campus sites. This could include DACA and immigration information sessions, community celebrations, and other relevant programs.
- Interact with and develop partnerships with community groups, businesses, state and local agencies to reach potential students for outreach and enhance college, K-12, and business relationships.
- Stay abreast of demographic and other factors impacting the Hispanic/Latino communities on the local, state, and national level.
- Provide mentoring and support to Hispanic/Latino students' academic and personal success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability To:
- Demonstrate excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Multi-task, troubleshoot problems, and create conflict resolutions with minimum supervision.
- Deliver presentations and group facilitation.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully, both verbally and in writing
Other Requirements:
- Native or near native fluency in both speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.
- Must have the ability to travel and work evenings and weekends for recruitment and outreach events as needed.
- Excellent rapport-building and advocacy skills for students and families.
- The ability to assess needs and work to implement a plan of action to address the specific needs.
- Skilled in counseling, motivating students, and communicating with families.
- Experience in marketing special programs to students who may otherwise be unaware of their potential
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from the information collected.
License:
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license
Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 2 years work experience in a Boys and Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people..
- Experience working with the Hispanic community and a diverse community.
- Thorough knowledge of recreation and youth development theory
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This is largely a sedentary role. However, it may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. No personal protective equipment required. Travel to Club Sites required as well as some outdoor activity. Mileage reimbursement provided for travel outside assigned counties.
