Phys Ed/Gym - Youth Development Assistant

Position Summary:

The Boys & Girls Club is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Youth Development Assistant with interests in physical education and the outdoors. This position will deliver a comprehensive physical education program that supports our priority outcomes in areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character, and Citizenship. The ideal candidate will be passionate about youth development and eager to contribute to our mission of inspiring and enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as responsible, productive and caring citizens. Essential Responsibilities:

• Assist Unit Director in the delivery of the gym program schedule with a focus on activities related to physical education and outdoors; adhere to established curriculum guidelines.
• Build positive relationships with youth, encouraging participation and fostering a sense of belonging within the club community.
• Monitor member behavior and interactions, implementing appropriate management strategies to promote positive conduct and conflict resolution.
• Provide supervision and support to members during program activities.
• Ensure a safe environment for all members by enforcing club safety policies and procedures.
• Monitor member behavior and interactions, implementing appropriate strategies (learned in staff training) to promote positive conduct and conflict resolution.
• Collaborate with team members to evaluate program effectiveness and contribute ideas for improvement.
• Track attendance for meals or programing, as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in education, physical education, recreation, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with youth in a recreational, educational, or community setting preferred.
• Ability to multi-task while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Compensation & Benefits:

• Monday-Friday 3p-6p
• Starting rate of $16.50 per hour; commensurate with experience.
• Maine Earned Paid Leave of up to 40 hours annually.

Work Environment including physical requirements:

• May involve physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, reaching or engaging in sports or games with youth for at least 4 hours per day.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist in setting up program materials and equipment.
