What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver (part-time) position at Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County?
Boys & Girls Clubs Northern Indiana Corridor (BGCNIC) invites applications for the position of Driver. This is a part-time, hourly position. Occasional evenings and weekend hours required. This role will work under the supervision of the Operations Assistant to assist with safely, efficiently, and reliably transporting club members, staff, and volunteers between different programming, particularly field trips.
BGCNIC serves 3,000 children ages five to 18 at 38 sites across the county through summer and before and after-care programming, with a strong focus on social and emotional learning, college and workforce readiness, and academic enrichment to ensure every child has a chance to meet his or her potential.
Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- All drivers will be on time for work and for each assigned route, which will vary weekly
- Conduct a daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection of your assigned vehicle
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required
- Instruct passengers, students and riders regarding safety
- Manage and direct exuberant behavior characteristics of all riders
- Drive defensively under varying traffic and road conditions and in inclement weather
- Administer proper procedures in keeping with transportation policies
- Be alert & exercise good judgment concerning emergencies & day-to-day operations
- Keep accurate records & reports as required and turned in on time
- Conduct one’s self as a professional Boys & Girls Club staff member at all times
- Care for all equipment as instructed
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Must provide a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit with a class “B” minimum classification, “P” passenger, “S” School Bus & air brake endorsement
- Must have the ability to secure & maintain required licenses & certifications through the State of Indiana, the Indiana Department of Education & BGCNIC
- The ability to pass a physical examination, background check, and a drug screen
- Maintain a personal telephone to ensure communication with the Club
- Required to participate in & successfully complete training, such as First Aid, bloodborne pathogen, behavior intervention, hazardous materials & others, as necessary to ensure safety of all students, staff, and volunteers
