Job Title: Teacher Assistant
Salary: $17 per hour
Hours: Hours will vary; part-time

1. Job Description:

The primary functions of the Teacher Assistant are to provide program assistance for teachers of the 21st CCLC Program with the primary concern for service delivery, lesson plans, and academic and personal enrichment activities.
2. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Effectively implement and administer Learning Center programs, activities, and services that prepare students for success and create a learning environment that facilitates achievement of academic and personal enrichment outcomes
· Provide effective Learning Center supervision to promote and stimulate program engagement with students;· Act as a role model and guide all students
· Support program teachers during academic and personal enrichment programs
· Implementing the Teacher’s lesson plans and maintaining daily classroom schedules
· Supporting each child’s social, emotional, and intellectual growth and development
· Assist with ensuring the well-being and safety of children
· Using a variety of instructional and assessment strategies, as directed by the Teacher, to meet individual student needs
· Assisting students with assignments or difficult concepts
· Maintaining communication with parents, staff, and faculty regarding the progress of students.
Other Responsibilities:
· Work closely with the lead teacher to provide support in planning and implementing educational activities and lessons that meet the needs of students.
· Help to supervise students during class activities, field trips, and other events
· Provide one-on-one support to students who need extra help
· Assist with grading assignments and recording grades
· Communicate with parents and guardians about student progress and concerns
· Maintain a safe and clean classroom environment
· Attend meetings and professional development sessions as required
3. OTHER FUNCTIONS
Actively participate in professional development· Completes any additional assignments as requested by the Site Coordinator or Project Director· Complete any additional assignments as requested by Management
4. QUALIFICATIONS
BACKGROUND SCREENING
- Must submit to and pass Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Children & Families.
- Must pass pre-employment drug test
Certifications
- Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous work experience with youth, preferably in an afterschool/before-school or summer enrichment program.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
· Experience working with children strongly preferred
- Basic understanding of childhood development and steps to support children of various ages
- Ability to effectively communicate with teachers and parents regarding student's progress and behavior
- Strong organizational skills are essential to aid in preparing materials for several daily lesson plans
- Personal accountability and patience are essential when working with children daily in a classroom environment
- Ability to prioritize activities quickly and support the teacher in exceptionally busy instances
- Basic writing, math, and science skills are necessary to assist in teaching students and answering their questions
- Ability to manage potentially challenging behavior from students and maintain a professional and patient demeanor
- Experience fostering positive relationships with children and adults in a learning environment
Travel
Some travel may be required for training and/or other business purposes
5. Working conditions
Our offices, neighborhood clubhouses, and school-based clubs are fast-paced work environments and are strategically located in areas of St. Lucie County where youth need us most. Based on the organization's needs, flexibility to work different schedules and work in different locations in St. Lucie County is required due to changing business demands. General office conditions are the standard work environment (standing, sitting, and walking). PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping/kneeling, reaching with hands and arms, and finger dexterity.
- This position requires extended talking, listening, sitting, walking, and standing; computer viewing, and keyboard entry. Regularly lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Daily operation of personal motor vehicles relevant to carrying out job duties is required for this position.
- Ability to think strategically and ability to sit for more than four hours per day.
