What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Development Officer position at Boys & Girls Clubs of The Sioux Empire?
The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will lead and oversee all fundraising, grant management, marketing and communication efforts to support Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire’s mission. Reporting to the CEO, the CDO will develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy to grow revenue, increase donor engagement, and enhance the organization’s visibility. This role will directly supervise the Development Director, Grants Manager, and Marketing & Communications Director to ensure alignment and collaboration across fundraising, grant writing and internal and external communications.
Essential Job Functions:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes major gifts, corporate partnerships, grants, and special events.
• Work closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to identify and cultivate key donors and stakeholders.
• Lead advocacy efforts by leveraging knowledge of public policy, community relations, and nonprofit funding to advance the organization's mission and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, policymakers, and community partners.
• Work closely with organizational leadership to provide strategic guidance and oversight for various programs, ensuring they align with the mission, support sustainable growth, and foster cross-departmental collaboration.
• Oversee and support the Director of Development in donor stewardship, annual giving campaigns, and major gift fundraising.
• Strengthen relationships with current funders and seek new funding opportunities to diversify revenue streams.
• Supervise the Grants Manager to ensure a proactive grant pipeline, timely submission of proposals, and compliance with grant reporting requirements.
• Identify and pursue new grant opportunities that align with the organization’s mission and programs.
• Oversee the Marketing & Communications Director to develop and execute branding, messaging and public relations strategies.
• Ensure alignment between development and marketing efforts to effectively communicate impact and engage donors.
• Ensure consistency and alignment of messaging across all communication channels and touchpoints.
• Strengthen digital presence, including social media, website, and email marketing strategies.
• Track and analyze key performance indicators and other data points as outlined in the strategic plan to measure the effectiveness of fundraising and marketing efforts.
• Regularly report progress on fundraising goals and strategic initiatives to the CEO.
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to marketing, and development activities.
• Responsible for all other tasks the Chief Executive Officer and senior leadership assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and working collaboratively with executive leadership.
• At least five years of experience in a strategic role focusing on marketing, grants management, funds development, or a related function.
• Bachelor’s degree in development, public relations, advertising, business administration, or other fields.
Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofing ability.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
• Excellent time management and with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
• Constant hearing, hand-eye coordination, mind-eye coordination.
• Intermittent speaking, standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, reaching, low-level activity, and squatting.
• Constant keyboarding and computer work.
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Occasional lifting of items up to 20 pounds.
