TITLE: Youth Coordinator/DHS Mentor
DEPARTMENT: Ontario Clubhouse
REPORTS TO: OntarioClubhouse Director
COMPENSATION: $14.20 per hour/25 to 29 Hours /Week
JOB SUMMARY:
A Youth Coordinator/DHS Mentor will serve as a positive role model for club members. They will integrate mentees into the Club and guide them into strong positive relationships. During the school year this position requires the mentor to meet with DHS every other week and fulfill light reporting duties. The Youth Coordinator/ DHS Mentor will assist with behavior management while also creating new opportunities for youth. The Youth Coordinator/DHS Mentor will ensure that members are receiving a world class experience full of impactful programs and fun. The Youth Coordinator/ DHS mentor will work primarily with grade first through sixth but could have seventh through twelfth grade members referred to them as well.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Member Safety and Supervision – 20%
- Set expectations and enforce Club rules for all mentees in fairness and in alignment with Club policies and procedures.
- Hold members accountable for behavior choices while communicating the benefits of positive choices.
- Manage the safe transition between mentoring activities and regular activities.
- Create emotionally safe bonds with mentees to cultivate trust and honesty between mentor and mentees
Member Relationship Building – 25%
- Build relationships with all Club members, especially mentees
- Communicate and model the Club values of Respect, Responsibility, and Integrity
- Provide ongoing guidance and mentoring to mentees
- Demonstrate the positive attitude that ensures a member’s success while having fun
Structured Youth Engagement – 25%
- Plan and lead daily activities, programs, and community service projects
- Work with the Program Director and Club Experience Coordinator to become knowledgeable about Youth Program Quality practices
- Work YDP’s to develop strategies for providing youth with new skills
- Career and college prep
Cleaning and Facility Maintenance – 10%
- Work with youth to ensure Club cleanliness – hold youth accountable
- Work with team daily to clean Club spaces (wiping everything down, sanitizing, sweeping, and mopping, etc)
Grant Deliverables – 20%
1. Using MTS, track mentee attendance and create groups
2. Working with the schools, track mentee grades, homework, and GPA
3. Write monthly reports (journaling)
4. Other grant tracking as assigned
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend monthly staff meetings and additional staff development trainings.
- May drive Club vehicles to transport youth to/from special events pending approval.
- Other duties as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club members, Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club parents, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.
External: Maintain contact with Program Director as needed to foster community relations.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- A minimum of one year prior work experience in a formal work setting; B&G Club, youth development organization, or customer services preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
- A positive attitude, integrity, and interest in helping youth become successful adults.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- CPR and First Aid Certifications (provided)
- Valid driver’s license (preferred)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Stand, reach, stoop, kneel, sit; talk, walk frequently, climb stairs, and listen/hear
- Use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
- Light to moderate lifting is required (lifting up to or over 50 lbs.)
- Regular, predictable attendance is required; Club functions and events may require extended daily hours be worked as such business demands dictate.
- Ability to handle noisy and high-energy situations while maintaining control
- Ability to work with diverse personalities in a busy, dynamic/stressful environment
