POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

PERFORMANCE PROFILE: MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL

REPORTS TO: CHIEF PROFESSIONAL OFFICER ANDDIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Directs/manages overall daily operations of athletic leagues with the primary concern for programs and service delivery, supervision and training of staff and volunteers, facilities management, community relations, and administrative functions.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

1. Establish, plan and deliver athletic activities and services that prepare youth for success and that contribute to the achievement of Youth Development outcomes and Club mission.

2. Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are consistently clean and maintained.

Program and Service Management

1. Ensure effective program planning.

2. Ensure effective program development.

3. Ensure effective program implementation and administration.

4. Ensure effective program evaluation.

Supervision

1. Daily monitoring of work assigned to staff and volunteers, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal.

2. Ensure proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation, figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues. Data entry of players and coaches.

3. Ensure productive and effective performance by all staff and volunteers.

Strategic Planning

1. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate overall athletic programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests. Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation. Organize programs and tournaments.

Resource Management

1. Manage athletic financial resources and control expenditures.

2. Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment of the organization, including use of facilities by outside groups. Ensure compliance with organizational

policies.

3. Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for staff and volunteers. Conduct regular staff meetings.

Partnership Development

1. Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders, schools, donors, sponsors,

organizations, coaches, volunteers and children.

Marketing and Public Relations

1. Assist in the development of public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Clubs and the community.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Purchase supplies and equipment.

2. Exercise authority in problems relating to members.

3. Drive agency vehicles as needed.

4. Personally deliver program as needed

5. Personally perform maintenance and cleaning tasks as needed

6. Assume other duties as assigned by the CPO, DO, and DOP

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff and volunteers to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Maintain close, daily contact with staff and volunteers members to discuss issues, promote program, instruct, and advise/counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Must be self-directed and motivated
  • Highly organized and proven ability to multi-task
  • High energy level to work 40 hours weekly
  • Four year degree from an accredited college or university or experience equivalent
  • A minimum of five years experience in planning, organizing, directing, and participating in athletic leagues and sports
  • Demonstrated ability in staff supervision and facilities management
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to train, supervise, and motivate staff and volunteers
  • Ability to deal effectively with members and parents including discipline problems
  • A valid Texas state CDL or ability to obtain in a timely period with driving record that permits coverage by BGCWF Insurance Carrier
  • First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain in a timely period
  • Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office
  • Non-violent crisis intervention certificate or ability to obtain in a timely period

ETHICS:

Professional and personal ethics must be demonstrated and adhered to at all times and be in alignment and compliance with BGCWF staff code of ethics, staff member relationships and core values.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to sit, bend, kneel, stoop, walk, climb, reach with both arms and hands, and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must have manual dexterity to perform basic functions on a computer terminal and utilize cleaning and maintenance tools. Must be able to see and hear clearly among large groups of people.

Working conditions will include outdoor work in heat and cold.
