What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Coach position at Boys Town?

Provides content and instructional expertise as a coach to educators in support of student learning and instructional strategies. Focuses on individual and group professional learning that will expand the understanding of effective instruction for educators.

The position can be 10 months or 12 monthsMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Provides personalized 1:1 support based on the curriculum goals identified by educators and administration.
  • Provides organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
  • Facilitates the intellectual and professional development of teachers with a focus on improving student achievement.
  • Provides support in analyzing student assessment data.
  • Assists teachers with creating materials or specific classroom activities that are in alignment with curriculum and assessments.
  • Provides encouragement, motivation, and management strategies to teachers.
  • Encourages ongoing professional development for all teachers.
Assists with the development of curriculum, instruction, and assessments.
  • Researches curriculum-related instruction to be used in the classroom to solve challenges to accomplish curriculum goals.
  • Models effective and differentiated instruction when requested.
  • Manages time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning.
  • Works positively towards meeting identified improvement goals.
  • Develops and maintains a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers and staff.
  • Possesses and understands when to contact administration regarding issues of safety/ethics involving students in classroom observations.
  • Participates fully in professional development for coaches, including peer observations and professional research.
  • Collaborates with staff to support implementing and improving instructional practices.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles and practices of curriculum lesson planning.
  • Ability to learn and apply new instructional practices in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving, research, and planning skills.
  • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction and teamwork.
  • Desire to continue career improvement.
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations.
  • Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrate strength in organization, communication skills, and efficiency in meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for administrators and teachers.
  • Previous coaching and teacher leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies, conditions of learning, and teaching/learning processes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school required.
  • Current Nebraska Teaching Certificate required.
  • Minimum 3 years of previous experience in coaching or teacher leadership required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous classroom teaching experience in field preferred.
  • Masters in Curriculum and Instruction preferred.
  • Special Education endorsement preferred.
  • Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.
