What are the responsibilities and job description for the Journeyman Lineman position at BP&L Industries Inc?
BP&L Electrical Division is seeking a Journeyman Lineman to install, repair, and maintain overhead and underground electrical power lines with experience in oil and gas Industries. We are looking for a dedicated, safety-conscious professional with a strong work ethic and commitment to delivering high-quality, efficient, and reliable service.
Responsibilities:
- String, splice, transfer, and sag wire in both energized and de-energized circuits.
- Connect wires and transformers according to specifications or directions.
- Modify power lines by adding or removing wire using various splices, connectors, sleeves, or clamps.
- Work at heights on poles or steel towers using climbers, safety belts, man-lift equipment, or boom trucks.
- Utilize underground locating and fault-finding equipment to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Route or re-route power lines around existing structures, often working in proximity to energized lines.
- Select and use hot line tools and protective gear, including rubber gloves, line hoses, mechanical jumpers, fiber guards, and blankets.
- Install, remove, transfer, maintain, and repair overhead and underground equipment, such as:
- Cross arms, pins, insulators, transformers, and switch racks.
- Cut-outs, disconnect switches, circuit breakers, and self-contained meters.
- Perform line switching and sensationalizing as needed.
- Conduct emergency repairs, phase and connect circuits under load, and balance feeders.
- Inspect lines, poles, and equipment for damage or wear and report any deficiencies.
- Assist with pole setting and replacement, including carrying poles, digging holes, and erecting steel towers.
- Train apprentices and crew members in power line maintenance and construction.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues on company and customer equipment.
- Climb ladders, poles, and towers daily and work at heights exceeding 10 feet (e.g., in bucket or platform trucks).
- Operate boom trucks, bucket trucks, and other heavy equipment requiring a valid Texas CDL.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Journeyman Lineman License (Required)
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) (Required)
- Ability to pass a drug test (Required)
- Minimum of 3 year of experience preferred
- Open availability and willingness to travel (Work may require standby, pre-arranged, or call-out duty)
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and meet all physical demands of the position
- Must Be in the Permian Basin
