What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Specialist Manager position at BPL Plasma, Inc?
Purpose
The purpose of this position is to assist the Center Manager with the management of the Medical Specialists team in support of donor medical screening for both normal source plasma donation and participation in specialty plasma programs. This includes staffing (recruiting/hiring), training, and performance management.
Operates within the scope of EU Good Practice Guidelines and FDA cGMP 21CFR.
Key Accountabilities
1. Under the Center Manager, this role acts as a functional manager overseeing the daily performance of the Medical Specialists and in some locations the Medical Reception Technicians.
2. This role performs the daily responsibilities of a Medical Specialist.
3. Ensures the center operates in compliance with EU, FDA, state, local and company-specific regulations related to employee and donor safety.
4. May participate in performing tasks associated with deviation management, including documenting quality events, conducting investigations, and identifying and implementing center corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) related to medical deviations.
5. Liaison between Center Medical Directors and Medical Operations, as needed.
6. Monitors the evaluation of donor suitability for plasma donation, including hands-on physical assessments. Provide guidance to the Medical Specialists team.
7. Reviews abnormal viral marker test results and other test results, as needed, and ensures proper action is taken for abnormal and reactive results including removal from inventory and contemporaneous computer entry, timely completion of Lookback Notification/BPDR, and donor counseling.
8. Oversees employee Hepatitis B vaccine administration, all specialty immunization programs and provides back-up support to VIG MS, as needed.
9. Oversees the treatment of donors experiencing adverse reactions and responsible for contacting professional emergency services, if required.
10. Promote donor education of the plasma donation process.
11. Participates in local community outreach activities to enhance relationships with potential donor sources to increase new donor growth, donor conversion and donor retention.
12. Promotes the consistent delivery of a positive donor experience by maintaining a clean and safe environment, minimizing waiting time for donors, and delivering a positive phlebotomy and service experience.
13. Responsible for maintaining appropriate Medical Specialist staffing levels.
14. Recruits, interviews and oversees the onboarding and training of Medical Specialists and medical reception staff, when needed.
15. Responsible for both Medical Specialists and Medical Reception (if applicable) staff development, coaching and disciplinary actions. Creates an open, positive, and supportive work environment to promote staff retention.
16. Responsible for the development of the Medical Specialist weekly schedule to ensure sufficient medical and reception staff are present during peak donation times to minimize donor wait times and to effectively manage current and forecasted production levels.
17. Participates in managing time and attendance for payroll processing purposes. Completes personnel status changes and terminations in a timely manner.
18. Other job-related responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Life Sciences or related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Experience in a supervisory or management role in a regulated environment, in a plasma or blood collection center preferred.
3. Minimum five years of experience as an EMT, Paramedic, LPN/LVN or RN license, as allowed by state laws in work location, with consistent work history, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
4. EMT-A, Paramedic, LPN/LVN or RN license, as allowed by state laws in work location.
5. Current CPR certification required.
6. Must maintain Medical Specialist certification and training.
7. Proven ability to lead teams to accomplish targeted performance expectations.
8. Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications.
Physical and Mental Working Conditions
1. Frequently performs work while standing or walking.
2. May be required to lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds.
3. Occasionally required to travel overnight.
4. Required to communicate and interact with employees and donors.
5. Required to maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center related information.
6. May be required to work flexible work schedule, including weekends and holidays. Occasionally required to answer after-hour alarms.
7. Frequently exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear personal protective equipment.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
