Position Title: Paraprofessional - East SEL Room

Department: Special Services

Reports to: Director of Special Services and Building Principal

FLSA Class: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting in educational settings by working with the class, small groups or individual students to help them take full advantage of the instruction program administrators.

Qualifications

  • Professional Educator License OR Substitute License from ROE OR
  • Paraprofessional License through the Illinois State Board of Education by:
  • Successful completion of sixty(60) semester hours of college or university coursework; or
  • Hold an Associate’s (or higher) college degree; or successfully pass the ACT WorkKeys

Assessment Test or the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment Test along with a high school diploma

or its equivalent.

DUTIES

  • Works independently in the Bradley East SEL room (bee-hive) daily
  • Prepares and Implements SEL Lessons
  • Keeps a schedule and attendance record for students who attend the beehive
  • Runs social emotional academic groups (SAIG) for students identified
  • Supervise recess detentions or in school consequences.
  • Tracks progress on students who attend the beehive
  • Assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master skills and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, schoolyards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
  • Serves as a resource person, if and when requested, to the student personnel evaluation team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned.
  • Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Supervise students who are attending the beehive due to lunch detentions or time out of class.
  • Completes required reports in a timely manner
  • Teaches socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
  • Works with students with multiple physical, mental, and developmental disabilities.
  • Is familiar with and uses adaptive equipment including, communication equipment, wheel chairs, adaptive feeding tools, etc.
  • May work with/handle resistive students.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  • Assists in maintaining a professional and positive school environment, and performs other teacher aide duties as may be assigned by the classroom teacher, administration or Board of Education.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education; completed 60 semester hours of college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education; passed the ETS ParaPro assessment; or passed the applicable ACT WorkKeys assessments.
  • Must have excellent Oral and Written communication skills to work with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators and the general public.
  • Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires employee to have the ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
  • Must be detailed oriented.
