What are the responsibilities and job description for the Histology Tech - FT - Days position at BRADLEY MEDICAL CENTER LLC?
Under the general supervision of the Administrative laboratory director and Medical Director, the Histologist accurately orients tissue in paraffin blocks and cuts embedded tissue using a microtome and assist the Pathologist with bone marrow biopsies. Performs cytoprepatory duties as needed. Monitors instrumentation for daily quality control and preventive maintenance. Processes specimens, decalcifies tissue, and prepares fluids, biopsies and bone marrow aspirations. Prepares microscopic slides by, labeling, staining, mounting and coverslipping all slides including recuts if needed in a manner according to established hospital policies and departmental procedures. Develops and maintains procedures and polices pertaining to the department. Supervises Histotechs in their daily duties. Develops new processes and procedures to improve the department.
They will also be responsible for clerical duties including faxing, answering phones,and working on the computer registering and ordering reference specimens from other healthcare facilities whenever needed.
Must have good communication skills when dealing with patients and/or visitors and must show a caring and giving attitude and know that the care of the patient is the most important job. Must be able to work individually but also as a team with the non- technical staff with- in the lab and outside customers of the lab.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES - PREFERRED:
Certification from a Histotech program preferred. ASCP Certification preferred.
BASIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - PREFERRED:
Attention to detail and concentration
Ability to work in fast-paced, ever-changing environment
