Position Overview:
The Corporate Accounting Manager, reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, plays a key role in the finance transformation at Bragg Companies. This position is essential to modernizing the company’s accounting systems and operations, improving internal controls, and refining accounting policies and procedures. As Bragg Companies continues its transformation, the Corporate Accounting Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Finance, IT, and other business partners, to drive efficiencies and maintain accuracy in accounting operations. Additionally, this role will manage general accounting tasks, balance sheet reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting, while fostering a culture of process improvement and teamwork within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounting Operations: Oversee general accounting tasks, month-end close, preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations, and the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports.
- System Implementations: Evaluate, recommend, and implement new systems that improve transaction processing and streamline the month-end close process to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, including general ledger (G/L) posting, reconciliation automation, and the reduction of manual tasks during the month-end close.
- Technical Accounting Research: Analyze and propose appropriate accounting treatments for unique and complex transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
- Financial Statement Processes: Develop, document, and implement processes for financial statement close procedures, ensuring smooth, efficient, and compliant financial reporting.
- Team Development: Mentor, guide, and coach the accounting team to maintain high levels of performance and contribute to a collaborative, results-driven work environment.
- Financial Analysis: Compile and analyze financial information, including payment and cash flow analysis, to provide insights that support decision-making across the company.
- Audit Coordination: Manage the preparation of financial statements and coordinate the annual audit process, ensuring all supporting documentation is accurate and readily available for external auditors.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, including financial analysis, financial reporting, technical accounting, or general ledger responsibilities. Previous experience in managing a team is preferred. Audit experience is a plus.
- System Implementations: Demonstrated experience in implementing and optimizing financial/accounting systems to improve operations.
- Process Improvement: Experience in accounting department transformations, designing, and implementing process improvements.
- Technical Accounting: Strong understanding of accounting principles (US GAAP) and proven experience researching accounting guidance, drafting accounting memos, and applying technical accounting treatments.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to identify and articulate challenges in accounting processes and collaborate with leadership to propose and implement process improvements.
- Experience in Large Companies: Experience working at companies with revenues exceeding $300M.
- ASC 606: Familiarity with ASC 606 revenue recognition, particularly for construction service contracts.
Work Environment:
- Location: The position is based at Bragg Companies' Corporate Headquarters in Long Beach, CA.
- Physical Demands: Standard office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. Occasional movement between office areas may be required.
