Overview
Brambles is a new golf course in the mold of the historic and beloved courses of England and Scotland, within striking distance of San Francisco and the Wine Country. Brambles is located in Middletown, CA and is a 670 acre working ranch with livestock and an 18 hole golf course designed by esteemed architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Our Head Greenskeeper and his crew maintain the golf course and our growing flock of sheep will spend their spring and summers maintaining our native grasses and roughs. We are seeking a Ranch Manager to oversee all Ranch operations, ranch construction projects and livestock management.
Job Description
The Ranch Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the ranch, including managing construction projects related to ranch infrastructure and improvements as well as comprehensive livestock management. This role requires a blend of ranching knowledge, construction and equipment-operating expertise, as well as livestock management experience. The candidate would ideally have extensive and relevant experience, an Associates or Bachelors degree and possess strong leadership skills.

Supervise and coordinate all ranch activities and infrastructure, land maintenance, construction projects, equipment operation and livestock management.
Activities & Responsibilities
Ranch & Construction Management
- Maintain ranch infrastructure, including: fences, maintenance roads, parking areas, barns, drainage, wells, pumps and water systems.
- Manage and lead a 2-3 person crew.
- Manage ranch budget and resources effectively.
- Plan, design, schedule, execute and oversee construction projects on the ranch.
- Obtain necessary permits and ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Manage construction budgets and timelines.
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
Livestock
Our strategy is to have a golf course which will have natural, grassy areas grazed maintained by sheep. The sheep will be a critical part of the Brambles experience and golf course management maintenance practices.
- Work with the Head Greenskeeper to move the sheep around the golf course to maintain golf course roughs areas.
- Develop and implement a livestock plan with a focus on livestock health, breeding, and production.
- Monitor livestock health and ensure proper feeding, breeding, and veterinary care.
- Implement livestock health protocols and disease prevention strategies.
- Oversee livestock programs to achieve desired goals around golf course maintenance and potential breeding production goals.
- The current flock size is 40 sheep and 1 sheep guard dog
Leadership and Administration
- Supervise and train ranch staff and construction crews.
- Maintain accurate records of ranch activities, construction projects, and expenditures.
- Ensure a safe and productive work environment.
- Communicate effectively with owners and stakeholders.
Qualification Description
Experience
3-5 years of experience in ranch management, construction management and a strong focus on livestock management.
Skills
Construction planning and design, building and equipment-operating experience, construction budgeting, livestock handling, breeding and health management.
Knowledge
Building codes, safety regulations, ranching practices, animal science, veterinary principles, project design & management.
Education
Associate or Bachelor's degree in agriculture, animal science, construction management, or related field.
Certifications
Relevant certifications in livestock management, construction or ranch management.
Compensation Details
Salary: $75,000 annual salary, or higher based on experience
