Process Safety Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities
The Process Safety Engineer will be responsible for leading PHAs (HAZOP, What-if) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), reviewing and updating Risk Management Plans (RMP), participating in Process Safety Audits, and assisting Braskem sites with other PSM elements such as MOCs, Investigations, Event tracking, and such. Emphasis is placed on quality of the work product and the efficiency of work execution.
The Process Safety Engineer will work with Braskem site technical leaders on setting up the needed personnel and gathering PSI for the scheduled PHAs and therefore must be able to communicate technical requirements and deliverables clearly and concisely. They will also help sites brainstorm potential resolutions to High and Medium risk PHA scenarios.
To fulfill this role, the Process Safety Engineer will :
- Prepare, facilitate, scribe, and write reports for the PHA (HAZOP with LOPA, What-if)
- Select the PHA methodology based on the complexity of the process and hazards involved.
- Ensure the PHA scenarios, consequences, safeguards, and recommendations are complete, correctly identified, captured in the PHA software, and Follow Braskem PSM standards.
- Assist with process safety and risk management questions from US sites
- Produce technical reports
- Prepare and lead PHA management reviews where PHA findings are presented to site management
- Enter and manage PHA finding / Action items in Braskem Tracking Platform
- Ensure individual sites barriers list and consolidated risk matrix get update after issuing the PHA report
- Read and interpret Process & Mechanical Drawings, Instrument Diagrams, etc.
- Have a basic understanding of Dust hazards in the industry and be willing to facilitate Dust Hazard Analysis.
- Have a general understanding of OSHA and EPA PSM regulation
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have :
Will consider engineers who have been members of numerous PHA review teams, have extensive operations experience and possess a strong desire to learn how to become a facilitator. Other combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
