Project Accountant Manhattan or Brooklyn, NY

Job Overview :

A well-established specialty mechanical contractor in the New York metropolitan area is seeking a Project Accountant to join their team at a project site in Manhattan or Brooklyn, NY . Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer , this role will focus on managing project financials, vendor and subcontractor invoices, and ensuring accurate financial reporting for large-scale construction projects. The ideal candidate will have construction accounting experience on projects valued at $150 million or more in the greater NYC area .

Key Responsibilities :

• Apply accounting standards and procedures to manage routine financial transactions.
• Oversee the daily operation of accounting functions such as accounts payable, general accounting, and financial reporting .
• Prepare, process, and manage vendor & subcontractor invoices , ensuring accuracy and timely payments.
• Prepare client invoices and process back charges, bank reconciliations, and petty cash reconciliations .
• Resolve invoice discrepancies by collaborating with project controllers, construction teams, operations staff, vendors, and subcontractors .
• Assist with internal and external audits , ensuring compliance with all financial regulations and policies .
• Generate and analyze financial reports to provide insights on project performance.
• Maintain data integrity and ensure accuracy in financial reporting .
• Identify and implement cost-effective accounting methods to improve efficiency.
• Support additional accounting projects and reporting requirements as directed by the CFO.
