Job Role: Safety Specialist

Duration 12 Months (Long Term Contract)
Must possess at least one of the following.
- BCSP credential (CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, STS-C)
- Graduate or Charter Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in EHS discipline or EHS releated field
And
- Must have completed OSHA 30 within the last 3 years
- Must have minimum 3 years experience with large commercial construction projects.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Safety Specialist with a strong background in construction safety, building electrical systems. The Safety Specialist will be responsible for implementing and managing safety programs to ensure a safe working environment on construction sites, particularly those involving complex electrical installations. This role requires a proactive approach to safety, extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, and the ability to work closely with construction teams to mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Program Management: Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs tailored to construction projects, with a focus on electrical safety and compliance with OSHA standards.
- Site Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections and audits on construction sites to identify potential hazards, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and recommend corrective actions.
- Training and Education: Provide safety training to employees, including OSHA 500 courses, job-specific safety protocols, and emergency response procedures. Ensure all workers are knowledgeable about safety practices related to construction and electrical work.
- Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents. Analyze root causes and develop preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with OSHA regulations, local building codes, and industry standards. Ensure all construction activities comply with applicable safety laws and regulations.
- Risk Assessment: Perform risk assessments for construction projects, particularly those involving electrical systems. Work with project managers and engineers to develop safe work practices and procedures.
- Reporting: Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and compliance audits. Prepare and submit reports to management on safety performance and areas for improvement.
- Collaboration: Work closely with construction teams, subcontractors, and site supervisors to promote a culture of safety. Provide guidance and support in the implementation of safety measures.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction safety, with a focus on electrical safety. Experience with large-scale commercial construction projects.
- Certifications: OSHA 30 within the last 3 years. Additional certifications in electrical safety, first aid, and other relevant areas are highly desirable.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of OSHA regulations, particularly those related to construction and electrical work. Familiarity with NFPA 70E standards is a plus.
- Skills: Strong communication, training, and leadership skills. Ability to influence and engage workers at all levels of the organization.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly assess situations and implement effective safety solutions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including construction sites and outdoor locations.
- Ability to lift and carry safety equipment, conduct inspections, and perform physical tasks related to safety assessments.
