SUMMARY
Under general supervision, monitors vehicular traffic, issues traffic citations, removes dangerous and unlawful drivers and vehicles from the roadways, and investigates traffic accidents. Checks facilities and properties for possible criminal activity and responds to and investigates reports of criminal activities and public and domestic disturbances. Prepares and maintains records, logs, and reports of activities, incidents and offenses.

responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
? Operates police cruiser or motorcycle to patrol assigned geographical area;
? Monitors and observes vehicular traffic, detects vehicles which are exceeding the speed limit
or otherwise being driven in a dangerous or unlawful manner, stops vehicle and investigates
circumstances, and issues traffic citations as warranted;
? Responds to reports of traffic accidents, administers first-aid to injured persons, and calls
for emergency medical assistance; controls and directs vehicular traffic and citizens at accident
scene, conducts interviews with involved drivers and witnesses to obtain relevant facts and
information, and gathers material evidence from accident scenes;
? Observes business and residential properties for possible criminal activity, including
checking buildings for unauthorized entry, searching structures and property for intruders, and
investigating suspicious persons and events;
? Responds to reports of robberies, thefts, burglaries, homicides, etc.; administers first-aid
to injured persons and calls for emergency medical assistance, secures the crime scene, controls
and directs citizens at the scene, conducts interviews with complainants, victims, witnesses, and
suspects to obtain relevant facts and information, and gathers material evidence from the scene of
the event;
? Responds to reports of public and domestic disturbances and calms overly excited or agitated
persons, including physically restraining unruly individuals; conducts interviews with complainants
and witnesses, obtains relevant facts and information, and mediates and resolves complaints and
disputes;
? Makes arrests, including subduing individuals with appropriate action and force as necessary,
placing individuals into handcuffs or other restraining devices, searching vehicles and persons
under arrest for weapons and contraband, and transporting arrested individuals to detention
facility;
? Executes criminal and civil warrants;
? Maintain inventories of equipment, materials, and supplies required to support daily
operations;
? Builds relationships with the local citizens so as to increase community awareness, support,
and involvement in crime prevention;
? Inspects and regulates certain businesses as required by law;
? Sends out notices of Conduct Tax and Execution sales; serves writs;
? Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Training Guidelines:
High school diploma or equivalent; AND two years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age, have no more than 20/200 vision that is correctable to 20/20, have no past convictions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI or DUI), have no more than three moving violations within the last two years, not have ANY felony convictions, not have ANY misdemeanor convictions for any offense involving moral turpitude or family violence, be a United States Citizen [born or naturalized], possess an honorable discharge if prior military service, be prepared to purchase regulation departmental uniforms [a minimum of $200], have a current, working telephone, successfully pass a written examination consisting of vocabulary and comprehension skills (applicants failing this test will be allowed to test a second time not less than 90 days from the first test, if a position is available at that time), and not have been previously re-hired by the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office more than once.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
