The CMO network manages core administrative responsibilities, including human resources, finance, information technology, facilities, student recruitment, and marketing for our schools. We serve 3,000 K-8 grade scholars across ten schools and employ over 450 staff members.

OPPORTUNITY

Assistant principals are instructional and cultural leaders on campus and an integral part of the school leadership team run by the campus principal. Assistant principals will manage a specific grade band and / or content area, directly managing those teachers and being the primary point of contact for families.

In addition to serving in a school leadership capacity on a day-to-day basis, Assistant Principals also observe and coach teachers to effectively plan and deliver instruction and coordinate and analyze assessments. Assistant principals will be responsible for implementing and monitoring school-wide behavioral expectations and policies, including monitoring attendance trends.

Assistant Principals also shape school-wide and classroom culture, uphold the code of conduct, and provide coaching for educators and students. As a result, our school culture will maximize the academic learning experience that APs also cultivate with their coaching of teachers instructionally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

School Leadership and Management

  • Shape a vision for inclusive schoolwide and classroom culture that creates maximum learning and maximum belonging, allowing all scholars to feel safe, productive, and known
  • Be an active member of the school leadership team and school community; modeling the school and network values, mission, and vision
  • In partnership with the School Leader, ensure alignment of school practices to school-wide priorities
  • Support day-to-day operations of the school, as designated by the School Leader
  • Directly manage teachers in assigned grade level and / or content area

Instructional Coaching

  • Lead instructional staff to achieve measurable and ambitious results that improve their teaching quickly and measurably
  • Develop teachers through live coaching, modeling, regular in-class observation of practice and feedback, and spending 70% of the time in classrooms on teacher development
  • Coach teachers to improve their teaching to ensure effective student learning and outcomes based on research-aligned strategies and curricular vision
  • Establish clear weekly deadlines for curriculum materials (i.e., objectives, lesson plans, class materials, assignments, and assessments, including exit tickets)
  • Research, design, and / or supplement the academic curriculum based on successful models and approaches
  • Generate and manage standardized testing and internal assessment schedules, logistics, and reporting
  • Visit classrooms regularly to ensure that lesson activities are aligned with objectives-driven curriculum plans
  • Delivers real-time feedback for all short observations in a timely manner
  • School Culture & Climate Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Principal, Director of Operations, Deans of Culture, and the Special Education Interventionist to maximize the ability to support students' academic and socioemotional development
  • Conducts observations of teachers in their classes weekly to ensure alignment with school and network management and philosophy
  • Coach teaching staff on effective teaching practice and classroom culture through the lens of Culturally Responsive Teaching and Trauma-Informed Practices
  • Implement behavioral consequences that align with the code of conduct, state law, and our beliefs about restorative practices
  • Resolve student issues by meeting with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff and designing a plan of action
  • Data Analysis & Evaluation

  • Help teachers read, interpret, and act upon student achievement data to develop instructional strategies and intervention programs that elevate achievement among all students
  • Apply teacher and staff performance management systems in a way that ensures a culture of continuous improvement, support, and accountability
  • Monitor grade-level progress against scope and sequence benchmarks
  • Contribute to the Principal's evaluation of school staff by conducting two classroom teaching evaluations for each teacher annually, including a pre and post-meeting
  • Meet with the Principal regularly to ensure that teachers' professional weaknesses are being addressed with appropriate professional development
  • Facilitate differentiated professional development sessions for teachers and staff to promote a strong school community during Summer Institute and throughout the school year
  • Properly log, track, and analyze student discipline data
  • Family Support & Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families within their scope
  • Build a strong rapport and communication with families to best support student achievement and social-emotional needs
  • Facilitate proactive and reflective meetings with students / teachers / families to problem-solve behavioral concerns whenever necessary
  • Manage a process that prioritizes personal reflection & restorative practice to maximize learning time and maintain a safe learning environment when students step outside the code of conduct
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Education :

    Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred

    Experience :

    3 years of teaching experience required; urban education experience preferred

    2 years of leadership experience required; urban education experience preferred

    Experience coaching instructional staff through modeling and support preferred

    Licensure and Certification (s) :

    Valid Ohio teaching license or in the process of obtaining a valid Ohio teaching license which can include a 1 or 5-year substitute license preferred.

    Valid Ohio Principal Licensure preferred, inclusive of non-traditional Licensure Pathways

  • Curriculum Coach / Leader, administrative or leadership experience in a school setting preferred
