What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Lifeguard position at BREC Recreation And Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge?
The Head Lifeguard works at BREC aquatic facilities, supervising operation and staff, ensuring safety of patrons and staff, sometimes assists maintenance of water quality, providing life safety, scheduling site guard shift rotations, and training staff, communication, enforcing BREC regulations and promoting good customer service.Education: High School Diploma, Graduation from an accredited four year College or University preferred. Minimum two (2) years working in aquatic programming, training and facility management or related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Thorough knowledge of use and application of water rescue methods, lifesaving, first aid practices & techniques;
- Ability to instruct, schedule rotations, supervise, evaluate staff;
- Ability to teach swim classes;
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Training staff and coordinating supplemental training (e.g. in-service operations, resuscitation and first aid) with Safety Department;
- Assist in Supervising swimming program and instruction;
- Ensuring safety of patrons, watching for, guarding against and notifying patrons of unsafe conditions, accidents or occurrences, administering first aid when required; reporting all accidents in writing to Aquatics Manager within established time frame.
- Ensuring maintenance of facility including water quality, filtration, chlorination system, cleanliness, sanitation, minor repair and maintenance, cleaning restrooms, activity reports, emptying trash cans and other assigned duties.
- Completing incident reports with patron's accidents, complaints and assisting with minor rotations
- Strictly enforcing policies, rules, regulations, laws and ordinances governing conduct of patrons and staff;
- Attending weekly in-service training.
