What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Tech 1 - Zoo position at BREC Recreation And Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge?
The Maintenance Technician I works mainly outdoors at the Zoo and other exhibits, preparing beds, tilling, digging, watering, weeding, trimming, fertilizing and other general grounds maintenance activities.
License(s) Required:- Valid LA driver's license.
Six (6) months or more of relevant experience in grounds maintenance involving manual labor. Equivalent combination of education & experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance is required.
- Knowledge of landscaping tools and equipment and maintenance procedures is required.
- Skill in the operation of hand tools and grounds maintenance equipment
- Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions
- Ability to read and write the English language
- Ability to operate a BREC vehicle
- Ability to perform manual and skill labor in various weather conditions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Prepares beds
- Performs tilling, digging, watering, and weeding
- Loads and carries plants, soils, and fertilizers
- Mows and trims
- Assists with special events
