What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Manager (Facilities and Programming) position at BREC Recreation And Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge?
The Recreation Manager will direct, manage, supervise, coordinate assigned activities and evaluate recreation programs at one or more recreation centers as well as to inspect and supervise work inside the recreation facility and around the park property. This individual performs professional work in the administration and operation of the recreation facility and programs to include communicating and networking with other departments, outside agencies and the public.
Education Required: Graduation from an accredited 4 year college or university;
Preferred: Master's degree from an accredited college or university
Area of Study (Major): Recreation Management, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field
Certification(s) Required: Professional membership with LRPA and NRPA and First Aid, CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire; Preferred: CPRP or comparable certification through NRPA
License(s) Required: Valid LA driver's license
Years Relevant Work Experience: 2 years experience in field of recreation
Other: Knowledge of municipal recreation management principles and procedures; Knowledge of planning, scheduling, administering and evaluating the effectiveness of recreation programs; Knowledge of basic math/financial reports/budgeting; Knowledge of and skill in the use of various software applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Office Suites, RecTrac, MainTrac, and AS400; Strong interpersonal skills & ability to relate to others in a positive manner; Creative programming skills with the ability to assist in developing programs for diverse populations; Strong ability to relate effectively with people of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds; Public relations skills and public speaking ability; Ability to multi task is essential
- Administers operation of the center(s), schedules facility staff, maintains supplies and equipment, and ensures proper maintenance of property, reporting problems to Regional Assistant Director
- Hires, supervises, and trains staff on BREC policies and procedures
- Supervises all programs conducted within recreation centers and on park property
- Communicates program concerns to Program Coordinator and facility and park property concerns to Regional Assistant Director
- Directs program ideas from public to Program Coordinator including program objectives
- Assists Program Coordinator in promotion of programs throughout the serviced community
- Supervises and assists with special events and group activities as directed by the Regional Assistant Director
- Maintains financial records and completes weekly and monthly reports of all activities relevant to assigned facilities
- Regularly communicates with groups, civic associations, community leaders and businesses within serviced community
- Coordinates requirements of program/facility with effected BREC departments
- Assists Program Coordinator with supervision and evaluation of program quality and content at each facility
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Hours may vary from center to center and may fluctuate from core hours of 7-8 hours per day, 5-6 days per week for a minimum of 40 hours per week; overtime, weekend work and split shifts may be required.
