The Corporate Controller’s responsibility is to lead and execute the Company’s accounting and administrative functions. This position works closely with HR, Operations, and Sales functions to support many different business activities. Furthermore, this position works closely with the management team to provide input on operations and strategic planning. Special projects are a key responsibility of the Corporate Controller as the Company looks to optimize software, internal processes, and prepare for growth.
This is a hands-on role, and the candidate is expected to personally execute key accounting functions. Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in compliance with GAAP.
- Oversee daily accounting functions such as cash and bank reconciliation, accounts payable/ receivable, and the general ledger.
- Establish and maintain internal financial controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and safeguarding of company assets.
- Execute daily and periodic accounting functions such as cash flow management, sales tax filing, balance sheet reconciliation, monthly/ yearly closing, and financial statement preparation.
- Collaborate with the Company’s CPA firm to prepare and file corporate tax returns.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, particularly in tax filing and reporting.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
- Process bi-weekly payroll, including commissions, ensuring accuracy and timely payment.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements.
- Manage employee benefits and deductions such as 401K contributions, health insurance, and PTO and/ or sick time.
- Manage cash flow ensuring adequate liquidity for operational needs including timely collections and vendor payments.
- Maintain positive relationships with customers regarding billing, payment terms, and collections.
- Monitor accounts receivable to ensure timely payments and proactively identify and address payment issues with customers.
- Analyze inventory value, perform reconciliations, and oversee inventory management processes.
- Prepare and analyze reports on sales, profitability, purchases, inventory costs, expenses, operations, and other categories, as necessary. Tailor reports to various audiences including management, staff, and customers.
- Ensure accurate inventory accounting for both domestic and imported items.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team to foster a high performing culture.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on the accounting functions of the Company’s ERP system. Maintain proficiency in all other functions of the ERP system.
- Work with the management team on various strategic and operational initiatives and help the Company navigate opportunities, challenges, and the changing business environment.
- Perform benchmarking against competitors, both public and private, and against industry reports. Work with the management team to perform market research and analytics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred.
- Minimum 8-12 years’ experience in Accounting or Finance, with at least 5 years in running an accounting function
- Proven experience managing small teams.
- Experience start up and/or smaller privately held companies preferred
- Experience working with tangible items (physical inventory) in a traditional sales environment (order to cash processing) is required.
- Experience with NetSuite ERP system is strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office.
- Outstanding soft skills such as communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and leaderships skills.
Salary : $130,000 - $150,000
