Job Description:
- Transfer materials between railcars, tanker trailers, and bulk storage tanks.
- Safely operate yard hostler to move tanker and van trailers on the yard.
- Utilizes heating equipment or blend tanks for customer specific batches
- Turns valves or moves controls to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure, and vacuum levels.
- Observes chemical reactions; monitors gauges, signals, and recorders; and receives notification from control laboratory, supervisor, or other workers to make specified operating adjustments.
- Assists with receiving in raw materials for production process.
- Manages inventory when blending, including but not limited to inventory from railcars, tanker trailers, tote/drum containers.
- Assists with quality confirmation process by drawing samples of products for laboratory analysis.
- Maintains log of gauge readings, process rounds, and shift production.
- Completes appropriate quality, security, and shipping paperwork for associated loads and materials.
- May perform analytical testing on product to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Perform routine inspections on railcars, hoses, and transloading equipment to ensure proper functionality.
- Knowledge of FRA regulations, including how to properly handle bulk transfer equipment to build and break down railcars, and understanding requirements to release empty railcars.
- Follow company and industry safety protocols, including OSHA and DOT regulations, to prevent accidents and spills.
- Coordinate with drivers, rail operators, and facility managers to ensure timely and efficient loading/unloading.
- Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials (if applicable) to prevent spills and environmental damage.
- Willingness to adjust schedule during peak season and/or times of high demand
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- 1 years of previous plant/operations experience preferred
- Railcar operations and/or bulk batching of chemicals
- Must be able to safely utilize different types of heavy machinery (forklift, tractor, yard hostler, tanker trailer, dry van trailer).
- Computer and math (basics) literate.
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Able to read and write in English.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Ability to operate plant equipment.
- Must be detailed oriented and have a safety-first approach to all tasks.
- Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (i.e. respirators, Tyvek suits, protective boots, goggles, etc.).
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, or smell. The employee is frequently required to walk and stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment. Plant environment and exposure to chemicals.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen, fit for duty test and background check.
