What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emerging Markets Economist position at Brevan Howard?
Brevan Howard has an exciting opportunity for a Junior EM Economist to join our New York office.
The role will focus on providing macro analysis, economic forecasting, and market insights on EM economies, predominantly Latin America. The role involves analyzing growth trends, inflation, central bank policies, fiscal dynamics, and geopolitical risks across emerging markets to identify trading opportunities in FX, rates, credit, and equities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis of emerging market economies in Latin America (LatAm) region, including but not limited to monetary policy, fiscal policy, economic indicators, and geopolitical risks
- Forecast key indicators for emerging markets
- Prepare and present economic research reports, insights, and recommendations to internal stakeholders
- Work closely with portfolio managers, traders, and other team members to integrate economic analysis into the investment decision-making process
Required Skills
- 1-3 years of relevant work or research experience in Emerging Markets.
- Strong macroeconomic understanding; EM growth cycles, monetary/fiscal policies, inflation drivers etc.
- Market Awareness; Knowledge of various asset classes (bonds, interest rates, fx, credit etc) and macro strategies.
- Advanced Data & Quantitative Skills; programming and coding, Python, R, Excel, econometrics, Bloomberg.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.
- Spanish and/or Portuguese language (strongly preferred) due to interaction with Latin American networks.
Education Requirements
- Undergraduate and Graduate degree in Economics or other related field
