What are the responsibilities and job description for the Skilled Trades Worker position at Brevard County Sheriff's Office?
Performs work in several trades including general construction, maintenance, or repairs in a manner consistent with accepted practices, under the direction of the Facilities Director. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed and requires minimal supervision. The tasks below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
May perform all levels of:
May oversee inmate crews in assignments of basic construction.
Operates equipment safely.
Uses hand tools and operates motorized tools.
Loads and unloads equipment and materials.
Sets up safe work zones and ensures safety precautions on and around the work sites.
Provides regular progress reports to Facilities Director.
Responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job. High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in one or more of the skilled trades, (e.g. plumbing, pipe laying, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, masonry, air conditioning, painting, etc.).
Valid Florida Class E Driver's License (Must maintain for the duration of employment).
Work is primarily completed during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm); however, schedule flexibility is required to effectively perform the requirements of the position. May be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
In the event of an emergency, natural or manmade disaster the employee will be expected to work.
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph. Requires drug test prior to assuming position and if employed, will be subject to post-accident, and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed.

- All levels of painting applications, preparation of surfaces, scaffolding, etc.
