Senior Cost Accountant
Location: Taneytown, MD
We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Cost Accountant to join our finance team. This role will play a critical part in overseeing cost accounting functions and supporting operational finance initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost analysis, financial reporting, and project accounting. This position reports directly to the Cost Accounting Supervisor and will collaborate closely with various teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead month-end close activities related to inventory and cost accounting.
- Prepare and process journal entries for month-end financial reporting.
- Manage project accounting, including Percentage of Completion (POC) Accounting and reporting.
- Conduct backlog reconciliations and maintain balance sheet accuracy.
- Collaborate with project managers to analyze margins, estimates at completion (EACs), and potential cost risks.
- Perform annual standard cost roll and update cost structures as needed.
- Provide data-driven insights on manufacturing costs and operational efficiency.
- Stay up to date with corporate accounting policies and compliance standards.
- Support additional financial tasks as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in cost accounting, manufacturing, or financial analysis.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate complex financial data in a clear and concise manner.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to improve processes and challenge inefficiencies.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, BPC, or Symix.
- Background in a manufacturing or project-based accounting environment.
