What can you expect?

As the Site Superintendent/Safety Officer, you will primarily be working on projects within Alaska, Lower 48, and the Pacific Rim. Your duties include directly supervising and coordinating the activities of the field crews. You will be responsible for the safety and occupational health management of project employees.

How will you do it?

  • Assist Construction Manager in development of Company safety program.
  • Assist and coordinate with Project Managers to manage field personnel to complete tasks on time and within budget
  • Implement EM 385-1-1.
  • Develop, update, and maintain a Site-Specific Safety Plan (subject to client approval).
  • Enforce all safety procedures and adherence to the corporate safety plan to minimize our exposure and risk on projects.
  • Oversee safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, and safety enforcement at project sites.
  • Always maintain presence in the field when work is being performed.
  • Facilitate and record daily safety meetings, tailgate meetings, and/or toolbox talks.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings for all workers and participate in owner daily safety meetings.
  • Conduct monthly supervisory safety meetings and participate in monthly client safety meetings.
  • Perform daily safety and health, and environmental inspections and maintain written logs of same.
  • Conduct incident investigations and complete required reports, including performance of accident and incident investigations as needed.
  • Maintain the OSHA-Form 300 and Daily Production reports for prime and subcontractors.
  • Provide quarterly updates of OSHA-reportable forms.
  • Maintain applicable safety reference material on the job site.
  • Attend and participate in pre-work meetings including Preparatory Phase Inspection meetings and periodic in-progress meetings to address safety concerns, review activity hazard analyses, and document matters pertaining to safety and health.
  • Create, implement, and enforce accepted accident prevention plan(s) (APPs) and activity hazard analyses (AHAs).
  • Coordinate and assist with equipment training or subject matter training as necessary to complete the task at hand.
  • Maintain a safety and health bulletin board.
  • Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution; maintain posting of unresolved deficiencies. 
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements.
  • Maintain records of job personnel safety training.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations and standards for employee health and safety and ability to implement in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of standard safety equipment used in construction occupations.
  • Knowledge of construction, architectural, and building industry standard operating practices/procedures.
  • Knowledge of standard computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, reports, advisories and other technical documents and manuals.
  • Ability to develop and present health and safety training classes for staff, faculty, and students.
  • Ability to facilitate and participate in group meetings.
  • Excellent analytical and forecasting skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions.
  • Client-centric orientation and exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal.
  • Ability to practice good organizational skills and to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure.
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality when dealing with sensitive and confidential issues and situations.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to collaborate, partner, and exercise change time management skills.
  • Ability to comply with and enforce standard policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to travel to remote project sites for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise craft personnel when operating as Site Superintendent.

Who is Brice Environmental Services looking for?

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ Health and Safety Management experience.
  • 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within the last 5 years required.
  • First-Aid/CPR/AED Certification required.
  • A minimum average of 24 hours’ annual formal safety training during the past 5 years required.
  • Valid state driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Brice Environmental Services Corporation.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving record, and background screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Safety Management, Construction Management or equivalent preferred.
  • Construction industry strongly preferred. 
  • Federal client experience preferred.
  • Construction Quality Management preferred.
  • Confined space evaluator preferred.
