OVERVIEW

Bridge Boston Charter School is a tuition-free, K1-8 public school serving 335 students in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and the surrounding community– many of whom have experienced social, emotional, and developmental barriers to learning. Bridge Boston’s robust social-emotional program is designed with an eye to supporting students who have experienced trauma in their homes and communities.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Senior Director of Academic Support, the Occupational Therapist 

 

Specifically, they will be responsible for:

  • Sustain a school-wide culture of respect and actively use the school’s behavior system
  • Work with students with emotional, behavioral, attentional disabilities to increase self regulation skills
  • Participate in IEP and 504 meetings
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement treatment plans (including goals, objectives, and activities to meet goals/objectives) 
  • Ensure that treatment programs support performance within the student’s classroom environment and make available to teachers instructional ideas that are appropriate for exceptional students within the classroom situation
  • Screen students based on referrals, providing RTI as needed
  • Monitor the student’s response to interventions, re-evaluate as needed, and modify treatment plans as needed
  • Provide consultation to staff about best practices surrounding supporting students with disabilities, especially ADHD and AS; provide consultation to staff in the implementation of IEP services
  • Consult with teams for both progress monitoring and response to intervention check-ups
  • Complete and disseminate evaluation reports to the students' teams.
  • For students with primary OT disabilities, manage cases as the Case Manager for applicable 504 and IEPs
  • Maintain daily progress notes, goal checklists, communication /conversation logs, quarterly progress notes, and discharge plans 
  • Establish and maintain Medicaid requirements for providing billable services for the district in a timely manner, and complete online documentation of services for Medicaid reimbursement 
  • Partner with parents/guardians, teachers and mentors to assist students in utilizing and carrying out their plans.
  • Establish and maintain two-way communication with parents/guardians and other staff members in an honest, positive and constructive manner
  • Solicit and welcome critical feedback
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Special Education Leadership 
  • Participate in myriad forms of professional development as scheduled for all faculty, as well as seek out and complete OT specific professional development.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy required
  • State of Massachusetts certification as an Occupational Therapist
  • Maintain certification as an Occupational Therapist by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • 3-5 years of experience preferred
  • Experience working in the school setting is preferred
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, parents, families, and community members
  • Experience in a similar position with a similar age range (K-8) preferred
Compensation:
$100-125 an hour based on qualifications
