Job Summary
The Operating Engineer is responsible for overseeing the refrigeration system, supporting plant utilities, and performing preventive maintenance and repairs under the guidance of the Chief Engineer and management.
Primary Responsibilities
Quality & Food Safety :
Ensure all assigned tasks align with product quality and food safety standards
Report any deviations to the QA Department
Refrigeration System Duties :
Conduct routine documented checks on the refrigeration system
Perform preventative maintenance as directed by the Plant Energy Manager, Chief Engineer, or Team Leader
Execute corrective actions on the refrigeration system as needed
Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues, determine root causes, and implement necessary repairs
Maintain detailed documentation of all preventative maintenance tasks
Maintenance & Repairs :
Install, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment
Utilize maintenance shop tools to fabricate parts, structures, or equipment
Perform general facility maintenance, including plumbing, electrical work, painting, and other building upkeep
Team Support :
Assist in the training and development of new team members
Collaborate with the Plant Energy team to enhance department operations
Job Requirements

Technical Skills :
Familiarity with GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices)
Knowledge of HACCP, FDA, DEP, EPA, TCPA, OSHA, and other relevant regulations
Competent in troubleshooting and performing root-cause analyses
Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office)
Additional Requirements :
Strong decision-making skills, personal initiative, and organizational abilities
Willingness to work overtime and provide shift coverage as needed
Ability to learn and adapt to new skills and technologies
Education & Certifications
High school diploma or GED required
Must understand, speak, and write English fluently
New Jersey Ammonia Blue Seal certification required (Red Seal acceptable)
Experience
Minimum 2 years in industrial manufacturing, with 1 year in the food industry preferred
At least 1 year of experience operating and troubleshooting refrigeration systems (toxic or non-toxic)
Working Conditions
Location : Vineland, NJ
Training : Initial training on the day shift (Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts).
Shift Schedule Post-Training :
12-hour shifts (7 PM to 7 AM), rotating 2 days on, 2 days off, including weekends.
