Academic Support Services Specialist - CE
The Academic Support Services Specialist is responsible for providing services to students in the areas of registration and answering general information questions. This position is also responsible for answering incoming telephone calls for the BYU Salt Lake Center and directing them to the appropriate employee or department and to answer the outside call button for entrance to the building.

Job Description
Academic Support Services Specialist - CE
The Academic Support Services Specialist is responsible for providing services to students in the areas of registration and answering general information questions. This position is also responsible for answering incoming telephone calls for the BYU Salt Lake Center and directing them to the appropriate employee or department and to answer the outside call button for entrance to the building.
What You’ll Do In This Position
- Approve or deny Clearance to Register forms for BYU FlexGE students requesting approval to register for classes at the BYU Salt Lake Center and/or Evening Classes.
- Handle all information requests regarding student accounts while following all federal laws pertaining to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Guide students through the process for submitting the Clearance to Register form for non-admitted students, obtaining an ecclesiastical endorsement, paying tuition, withdrawing from a class, petitioning for a grade change, etc.
- Assist students with registration problems and work with Enrollment Services to resolve registration and records problems.
- Provide information and make appointments for students requesting to meet with an academic advisor.
- Monitor the building call button and make decisions regarding admittance of visitors to the Salt Lake Center and BYU Pathway Worldwide.
- Answer all incoming calls and direct callers to the proper person or department.
- Contact faculty on behalf of current and prospective students.
- Manage the copy center; assign copy codes to new faculty and staff, run reports for copy machines’ usage, and schedule service for copy machines when needed.
- Various short-term projects, such as copyright evaluation of course materials and contacting students on behalf of the Academic Advisors.

What qualifies you for this role:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- High School Diploma with one year of experience in an office environment.
- Associates degree with two years of experience in an office environment, or four plus years in an office environment.
