Job Description
Assistant Manager – Educational Services
The Assistant Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the Educational Services Office and functions related to managing High School teachers. Administrative tasks include: working directly with the program’s high school teachers in their recruitment, interviewing, hiring, managing, supervising, mentoring, evaluation (including recommendations for termination), and identifying training needs especially related to improvements needed and in-service; providing administrative support to the department’s assessment plan and processes; providing administrative support to the department’s many instructional models, and working as a key member of the educational services team to meet the needs and accomplish the goals of the department’s strategic plan.
What you’ll do in this position:
- Works directly with the program’s 150 high school teachers in addressing the following tasks: Recruiting, Interviewing, Hiring, Managing, Supervising, Mentoring, Evaluating, and Training.
- Serve as the primary contact for assigned High School teachers on academic issues and teacher performance.
- Consult with the Educational Services Manager and Academic Product Managers to propose improvements in faculty support strategies for curriculum improvement/development.
- Develop an in-service training program for faculty contracted to support the department’s courses and students.
- Ensure timely grading and feedback on assignments per contracted agreements.
- Develop and manage relationships with part-time and full-time faculty to maintain support for Independent Study’s courses and BYU Online High School’s asynchronous and synchronous components.
- Ensure faculty performance through annual evaluations, feedback, and PDPs.
- Works directly with the program’s high school teachers (currently 15-30 teachers) to obtain teacher licensure in states outside of Utah.
- Ensures the effective and efficient operation of the Educational Services Office and Functions.
- Provides administrative support to the department’s assessment plan and processes.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Master’s Degree from an accredited university, AND a valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah with a “License Area of Concentration” of “Administration” OR willingness to obtain a Utah license within 6 months.
- 2 years of K-12 teaching experience and 2 years of K-12 educational administration experience hiring and supervising teachers/faculty OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of technologies and pedagogical methodologies, especially as applied to distance learning education.
- Experience and skills in hiring, mentoring, supporting, and evaluating K-12 teachers.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community.
- Impeccable integrity and a commitment to fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Focus on customer service, with a professional and courteous demeanor suitable for executive-level work.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to speak persuasively and implement desired actions.
- Strong analytical skills to define issues, analyze situations, and draw meaningful conclusions.

- Proven ability to use student achievement and feedback data to evaluate teacher performance and enhance instructional practices for all students.
- Familiarity with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines.
- Familiarity with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) policies and procedures.
- Outstanding organizational skills with the initiative to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Ability to direct tasks, assignments, and personnel to achieve organizational goals.
- Experience in managing and addressing personnel issues in a timely, fair, and effective manner.
- Strong computing skills, including proficiency in statistical analysis, and data analysis tools.
- Familiarity with educational technology and digital platforms used in online learning environments.
Preferred :
- Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Proficiency in utilizing educational technology to enhance learning and student management.
- Working knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS).
- Experience in online learning environments, particularly at the secondary level.
- Experience with online learning curriculum development and role of authors/Subject Matter Experts (SME).
- Familiarity with teacher licensing in other states outside of Utah.

Compensation Range
Actual compensation based on education and experience
